Let me know what you think of this template I created. I might try to sell it, or even give it away, if it is good enough. http://www.hearnew.com Thanks - Green will be given for constructive replies.
I would say it is just average, the white font is kinda tough on the eyes, it is very thin and bright. For comparision here is one I really like, my bid web directory, I use a customized version of a free template.
No offense, but your site just looks BLAH!! I agree that I might want to change my font, but I think as crappy as my site is, it looks a lot better than yours.
hahaha, I never said your site looks crappy, those are your words. Anyways my advice to you is if you can take constructive critisism then don't ask for it in the first place.
Wow, someone gave me a bad rep and called me a cry baby. I can take criticism, but I was just saying, it is had to take it from someone who has completely different taste than I do. I did change the font, as he said, I was just saying the design that he liked looked bad. (I was trying to do the crying smiley)
you are funny, you call your own site crappy, then call my crappier then say you are not a cry baby. then say it is just a case of 'different taste' (which it probably is). And then to top if off you actually take a peice of my advice and implement it? Anyways no biggie, I agree that my theme on my bid directory is bland but that is the sort of look I wanted on that particular site. Take a look at my newish Music Portal or my Entertainment Directory and you can see a couple of designs that are a little louder and more interesting. I know it can be upsetting to be critisized but usually there is something honest behind it (unless the person is just being an a-hole about it).
I don't like it at all, the margins are different on both sides of the page, the border is broken in the bottom right, you have the solid blue, but then the black bars with a reflection on them, the folder icons don't match any other part of the site...it doesn't look very professional if i was visiting your directory, i'd close the page right when i opened it (harsh but true, sorry)
The fonts on the left look better but the menu fonts and one on the right column still look the same. I also agree with some of what stax says, you could use a nice logo and match up the two shapes on the right column and I guess with the left too so it looks less 'throw together'. I sort of like the look of the file icons and it would be nice if the rest of the page was more like them
So the template is crap, I WAS RIGHT!! Thanks for the tips, I am working on cleaning it up now. Green to both of you. Still open to more suggestions.
Well the design is good. U have to work more on the graphics. The icons for the directories where the bids are placed are not polished. So u will have to work on that.
The boxes on the right still don't match and there is an extra black link on the second box (like it is cut-off). The logo could still use some work it just looks like the basic one with a big drop shadow added. The text on the right still does not match the text on the left column.
Logo does need a bit of work, but I think it looks a ton better than what I had. Other things fixed, except the font should be the same on both sides. One is bold and the other isn't ... I forgot to recheck in IE since the last bit of changes I made.
if you give me free with one back link, I will be more than happy to install it on my site. May be I am old fashioned but I like that template.
I need a little more than a bit jarring and very old. I know it is not Web 2.0ish, I am going to do that on my next bid directory template. I was just trying to go with a clean template, nothing too flashy, just functional.
the colors don't mix try looking for better color schemes , + the sites looks tacky(cheap) i mean free designs out there look 10 times more better and cleaner (your doesn't look clean at all)
Blue, Black, and White don't mix? Well, the free design I had before this one looked like crap (literally, it was a nasty brown). I will see if I can find a better color scheme. Maybe change the black for yellow since I am a U of M fan.
