I just got an email from Adbrite, where they are introducing their new advertising system, "Intermission," which they also call the ultimate ad unit. Here's the page: http://www.adbrite.com/mb/intermission_splash.php And here are some of the examples: http://www.adbrite.com/mb/intermission-sample-frames-screensaver-efax.html http://www.adbrite.com/mb/intermission-sample-frames-music-vidlife.html http://www.adbrite.com/mb/intermission-sample-frames-ebaum-slide.html What do you think of these kind of ads? Do you think this new idea of them will work?
not worth the money. it'll piss off people who regularly surf your site, not to mention confuse them and make them think you sold it
Ahh yeah, when I first saw the example, I thought people would probably be annoyed to have to click one more time just to get to the site they wanted to reach. Or worse, yeah they might think the site has been bought by the sponsor already.
welp, i think we'll call this an adbrite failure? it's really for people who are willing to sell the soul of their site for....a few pennies a viewer. a) it doesn't look like an ad b) that 'top bar' is designed to look hidden, this is meant to confuse people and to click on to the advertisers site. just look how pale and out of the site the continue to my site button is. the "how to get advertisements like this for your company on this site" link is WAY more visible than the one that actually takes you back to your site. c) it's a smart idea. what's the best way to get people on to an advertisers site? eliminate the click. sure 1 time out of 24 hours isn't *that* annoying...and it's not their first visit. but each website has their own feel, you do have to learn the table of contents, where the links are, etc. if someone came back to a site and that thing jumped out of the closet, they're likely to not return. d) it looks cheap, it's like a stripper in a club giving you a special hand goodie, a kiss on the cheek and her phone number. and when you leave the club with her you hear the bouncer whispering, "who's that chick?"
Adbrite actually called me about this yesterday. I share the opinion already stated here, I'm passing on these ads.
It seems there are people signing up for it though. IMO it will be good for the advertiser, since it's their site which will be displayed, but bad for the publisher.
