Hi Shawn, I have a small ISP company in Australia which is about to be released soon and we have decided we would like to use Optigold as our Billing Software! A couple of questions that i have for you are: 1) Do you have a trial version which i can install on Linux Enterprise Server? 2) When i wish to liscense the product do i need to reinstall the program or can i just register it without loosing any data? 3) Can i install the web server onto the same linux Server. Will perfomance or Functionality be affected?
The trial is the same as the licensed copy (you get a key that unlocks it and you don't loose any data). The web server requires FileMaker Unlimited, which does not run on Linux.
Thanks for you Quick reply! So should we set up our main database on a linux server and our web server on windows? or should we run both products on one windows server?
I would run it on the two different machines mostly for security reasons. You don't want your database server to be outside your firewall.
It looks like i will be installing My Database Server and Web Server on the Same Windows 2003 Server for now! Is there any reason why i can't do this? What version of file Proker Pro will i Be purchasing of you to install onto my server that will run both the web server and optigold database?
Installing both on the machine machine works sometimes on Windows, but sometimes it doesn't (no idea why). Optigold works with FileMaker 5.0, 5.5 or 6.0.
Will i just need file maker unlimited on the server to run both the Web interface and optigold? I heard file maker 6 is unstable with optigold is this true? Does File maker Allow for Backups while users are connected? what is the best way to back up file maker?
You would need FileMaker Unlimited for web serving (5.5 is best). FileMaker Server is what you would use for backups.
I know your Probally sick of answering questions all day, but im almost donne! Doesn't file maker pro unlimited 5.5 include file maker server? i have sent of a quote from my company to for a price on a number of items including, the "database web server" What version of File Maker Unlimited does this "Database Web server" Include? Thanks Shawn
So just to Confirm: I will need File Maker Unlimited installed to run the Web Server on my Windows 2003 server. For Optigold do i use File Maker Pro or File Maker Server? And both file maker unlimited and file maker *** (Pro or server) are able to be run on the same server?
FileMaker Pro would go on employee workstations, FileMaker Server on your database server and FileMaker Unlimited on the web server. FileMaker Unlimited and Server cannot "officially" run on the same machine, but sometimes it works.
Thanks Heaps for your help today! What version of file maker do you supply from your site? 5.5 or 6 So the: Database Client Windows Version? Database Server Linux Version? Database Webserver Windows Version? if both which one is best? thanks again
You can get 5.5 or 6.0 from us for any platform (all platforms run the same). There isn't a special version of Optigold for linux (an installer at least). Chapter 2 of the user's guide had the Red Hat installation instructions.
