Welcome to DP Tyna! Hope you like staying in this forum. People here are friendly and enthusiastic in answering questions. I am in technology integration and web designing not in marketing but if there is something that I could help, why not.

Hey Tyna, I'm new here as well, so won't participate in the welcoming committee just yet.

Found your thread by searching for affiliate marketing. Developed a product (more of a SAAS really) and have lots of questions on how to prepare for becoming a merchant. If any member here knows where to direct me, I will be glad. Will look for myself too.

The reason why I'm writing here in this thread is because I've been reading a lot recently about becoming an affiliate and have few things to share with Tyna here.

    • First of all, it seems as though most affiliates tend to focus on stats. If you have a well converting offer (which you've previously tested with some traffic to the site) your chances to attract affiliates go up considerably.
This of course means having a good enough product to ship as well.

    • Then, it helps to have some marketing materials ready upfront. Like banners, e-mail sequences, content, pdf files, etc. The more you help affiliates the better.
    • Finally, set the commission high enough that people have something to bother for. In an ideal world, this might mean a low to mid priced product (around 30-60$) and a very high commission per sale (minimum 75%). Some people even go with as high as 100% commission, and then profit off the up-sell.
    • Don't rush to find affiliates. And this is true even for ClickBank as well. As I've learned you have your one chance and then it gets considerably harder. The strong players are those that own the e-mail lists, and they can generate thousands of sales with a single e-mail. But are the hardest to get on board. And once you've been accepted by someone with a list, the word spreads to other affiliates as well (many have subscribed to one another so they know when a profitable offer is coming up). But this is a double edged sword. If your offer doesn't perform well, you are soon a no-no to a lot of potential affiliates. So take your time and prepare adequately first.
    Hope this helps.

I too am interested in learning how to better prepare for becoming a vendor. Any tips are welcomed, and even better if someone can direct us to a more appropriate thread.
