It is now possible to search Google over SSL (Secured Socket Layer). This means that when you visit a coffee shop, for example, with free WiFi your search queries will be encrypted or invisible. Secure Socket Layer connections provides an encrypted tunnel between your browser and Google. SSL prevents unauthorized users or individuals from viewing your private search queries.

Basically just another reason for a press release. They are very good at getting attention.

So, next time I'm in starbucks and i search for 'free car insurance quote', it will be TOP SECRET.

    Woooohooooo

    :D

It affects webmasters. The referrer field sent with the HTTP request is blank. So if you track keyword searches, these searches will not show any keywords and you will be SOL.

Thanks for a good sharing. :) Green rep added. I have tried and found no different between SSL and non-SSL results anyway. However, this could be a big important move by make SSL websites more visible and search-able.

Yes, I think this measure will protect our search queries from unwanted prying eyes, which is a good news for some special countries, such as China.
