Before my question....I couldn't remember my password and kept trying to reset it and it sends the initial email with a link to click, so I click the link to reset the password but the new password is never emailed! So my apologies I had to create a new account. Anyhow...to my question. I was reading something over at linkworth today about the new Google patent. (http://www.linkworth.com/blog/?p=43) It pointed out a section that appears to target programs like the co-op program and link vault. Has anyone else heard this and what are your thoughts on this? I went to the patent and read that section and it sounds like it's exactly what is happening. Heh...digitalpoint is so huge Google has to write an algo to stop them. scizzotie
This info isn't quite 'fresh' been around for a while. I am kinda busy and dont want to make a huge post, however I wanted to point out the comment the linkworth writer made about link-vault. I dont see anything in that paragraph thats targeting the format linkvault works by. Yes, they always talk about negative things towards the co-op because that links are dynamic, but linkvault is static so there is no way to detect it really. The post is just a bias and a vouche for LinkWorth. Also just to note that half of the stuff they patent isn't all going to be possible to implement into google.
Thanks for the reply. I actually emailed linkworth and asked about that and what they said was they were under the impression link vault was a dynamic display. I use the co-op but not link vault, so I wasn't familiar with them. There were a couple spots where they plugged their service, but overall, I don't see the bias-ness you speak of. I found it very helpful in explaining all of that legal patent talk that was going over my head. So are there any thoughts into redesigning the co-op to make it a little more search engine friendly? Or are we going to just hang on and see what happens?
It certainly seems to me that the coop links have been devalued in this most recent update, I would imagine it would be quite easy to do from googles side too and they have been on about it for a while
I'm basing that on the results from my site. Certain phrases that I had been targetting successfully using the coop network have dropped heavily in the rankings. Not just the position has dropped but also the allinanchor position, implying that they had counted far less of the links. For example one phrase dropped from position 5 allinanchor to position 87, it had been at position 5 for 6 months and all other factors had remained the same. I'm not looking for a scapegoat, that just seems like the most logical explanation
That's like Clinton saying, and in my best Clinton voice, "I did NOT have sexual relations with that girl!" I guess if it was truly a marketing/advertising tool, people would put the links in a more visible location. I was reading a post last night where a guy was trying to hide the text and no one was even saying, "Don't do that", they were helping him. Maybe the intentions could be conceived as a marketing tool, but everyone uses it as a search engine tool.
Well that is against the TOS and shouldn't be allowed... INV is right - this isn't new news, and if you look around the forum you will see many people talk about this issue. I would be amazed if google put that patent into action. There are simply too many sites (Outside of the co-op and link vault) that use "dynamic" links...
Nah, people save prime ad locations on their sites for ads that pay well. The coop is free....wouldn't make sense to give it the prime real estate on your site.
Of course not The guy that was asking about hiding ads (I think I read the same post) was just an idiot. I was talking more about why most people place the ads in the footer or other less desirable locations.
As far as Google devaluing Link Vault, I do not believe that is possible. The links are static and transparent. There is no way for Google to tell if they are LV Links.
The main links being devalued are non-relevant links. It doesn't matter if part of the coop or if you found one under your couch. It's all about relevance.
Yup, I must of said the same thing 100 times now. People always love to blame their lack of SEO knowledge on other people. Easy to say "hey, I can't be wrong, so it must be Linkvault's faut... ot DP's fault... or Santa's fault... or my dog's fault..."
Heh....I can't seem to find anywhere that someone blamed anything on anyone. All I have found is people asking questions about certain programs. What's funny to me is SEO "experts" always seem to find reasons why it is never their fault. There are so many "jokes" that call themselves experts on this subject, I don't think anyone should pass judgement on other's. It's obvious you are either a moderator or someone that spends a lot of time on this forum. I am rather surprised that you would talk down to people you don't even know as if you're better than them. Just my honest opinion.
He's honestly not trying to offend anybody and he was referring to people that complain in general. It's just that it kind of gets annoying reading the same comments almost daily being a frequent reader on forums. There are many people blaming stuff for their down-fall, when it's their fault for not considering factors. SEO is all about different factors and angles. Many of the people that blame the co-op have a recent website they blasted with co-op ads and complain about rank drop when in reality you dont deserve that rank. In all honestly instead of blaming, their time should be spend on personal learning which is most important as this is what trains you. A book wont teach you SEO, but trail and error and a proper thinking mindstate from experience will.
