I would be keen to hear if any DP members have noticed this problem in the recent Pagerank update? Google Pagerank Theory Basically I own and run MANY websites, but only two of them have lower pagerank than 3 weeks ago. I have increased the links to these sites (quality links), so I was expecting the same or higher PR. However, from all the sites in my network, these are the ONLY two sites to have been put on new servers since the last update. Could Google be trying to prevent people from buying sites? or selling links?
people are writing article about what google page rank is but page algorithm is a secret . google search algo. is based on pr . i think nobody will really learn what pr is
It would be good if someone would shed a little light on this Theory. I'm also curios as to why the PR of the sites suddenly changed. I have also heard some news that Google is going to replace PR with something else.
I should add that I am an SEO consultant, so I do monitor my link building and results very carefully. The strange thing is that we have a few sites that have been neglected but have the same PR, and these two sites have more quality links than ever before (from authority sites & built at a natural pace) Very strange.
i had a domain parked somewhere and nothing else, that domain after the update has pr3.... thats strange also
I agree with your suspicions on text-link-ads leading to a loss of PR -- One of my sites that I run TLA on dropped from PR4 to 3 despite growing links.... On the non-TLA site that dropped, was there any mention of selling links?
That is another theory that needs more research. We did sell links on one of the pr6 sites and it went to PR4 despite gaining quality links. Google would have no problems finding sites that use TLA etc. But the answer may be more simple than that. If you use TLA then you are linking to 10 sites, therefore leaking pagerank to 10 sites more than you normally would. So that may explain your loss of PR
How do you know the Quality of a link? Maybe a link you got for a long time, has weaken because it doesn't pass any PR or has been banned. I have a website which is hosted on 3 seperate server/ ip's. Every time GoogleBot sees a different IP/computer. The site has a PR of 6 and has been a PR6 for some time. I don't think Google cares about the IP-number.
To the OP: Google can't "prevent people from buying sites". The very idea you're putting forth is ignorant and preposterous. The article you share is pure speculation, by someone who is not even (or does not even appear to be) an SEO expert.
My article is purely speculation, and the principles that I am putting forward go against EVERYTHING that I believe. So if it sounds flawed then GOOD. That means my ACTUAL views are correct It may or may not be coincidence, but the role of people like myself is to try and dig deeper and find the actual reason that it happened. Perhaps people like yourself just follow the standard views and don't push the limits. For the record, if the sites had dropped from pr6 to pr5 I would have just put it down to some links perhaps losing some of their strength. But the gap between pr6 and pr4 is a big gap and requires a more dramtic answer than that. Also, The stealthy one - you seem to have mis-read my point. I am not saying that Google is against buying sites, but they surely will be against buying sites with the purpose of selling links. Thanks anyway for your input.
There could be two pageranks actually 1) Public PR which is shown to public. 2) Private PR which is used to rank indexes and public pr would have some weight in it
I think Google PR is probably more complex than we all think it is. Google hires some of the brightest engineers and programmers in the world. Although we only see a simple PR value in our browsers, their algorithm is mostlikely a combination of hundreds of different factors.
