New Google mobile bot?

Today, for the first time I noticed some entries in my log like this:

    66.249.66.20 - - [07/Sep/2005:18:36:35 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 2936 "-" "Nokia6820/2.0 (4.83) Profile/MIDP-1.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0 (compatible; Googlebot-Mobile/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)

Is this a new Google mobile archiving tool? I've certainly not come across it before.

I find it interesting it mentions a specific model of phone - perhaps this is being carried out for some sort of Nokia-specific search facility?

It's possible that Google is using something like Squeezer does. A phone requests a page, and the site sends a bot to retreive and compress the page for the phone.

    Just a guess.

Yeah... probably just a cell phone proxy I'm guessing.

Found this bot this morning and I've never seen it before. Is it a Google bot for WAP?

Perhaps it's just something from before, or perhaps its something to do with Bigdaddy. but I had this entry from a bot with GoogleBot tag, but it's different! Something new? It came on the 5th of February:

    Nokia6820/2.0 (4.83) Profile/MIDP-1.0 Configuratio...

It says googlebot somewhere on it too.

I saw it in my logs too and I posted about it last week but no one responded or someone did but thought it was someone browsing w/their phone. Anyway it say's googlebot in the log along w/the nokia info so i'm assuming its a bot or someone using that as there agent and faking to be googlebot.

I saw it for the first time a few hours after posting a spam complaint, (for this: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=55842) and noticed the problem had been taken care of shortly afterwards. It made me wonder if it was a google employee, or perhaps an employee setting off a bot of some kind to check something...
Can you fake a useragent on a phone?

Guess it's time to create a CSS for mobile now that Google's going to crawl it as a mobile. I've put it off long enough...

Interesting - this bot is tearing up my web site right now. At first I thought it was someone faking as a Googlebot user agent, but it sounds like it is GB. Cool!

You can search on google from mobile , if user wants to see a page from results google crawls it and makes a version for specific phone , I tried this before .
