Has anyone else seen this. Its looks like some beta program google has.

    Welcome to Google Alerts

Google Alerts are email updates of the latest relevant Google results (web, news, etc.) based on your choice of query or topic.

Some handy uses of Google Alerts include:
    monitoring a developing news story
keeping current on a competitor or industry
getting the latest on a celebrity or event
keeping tabs on your favorite sports teams
Create an alert with the form on the right.

I signed up for it today and I dont know if it will come in handy or not but seems like it could be useful.

Yes, checked it out a few weeks ago. I think it has been around a while actually though it never gets mentioned very often. I haven't used it but could be useful to track competitors and industry new etc. indeed.

That's been around for quite a while.

It's really handy for looking for backlink updates etc...

How would you set it up to keep a check on backlink updates?

I find Google Alert (http://www.google.com/alerts) has been very handy for letting me know when news on a particular subject is in - it saves me doing manual searches everyday only to get an old result :)

I just signed up today so I havent had a chance to see any of the reports so I cant say whether it is going to be useful or not. I hope this tool can help me with working my way to the top of the results and keep me from having to use a lot of different tools to find all the lastest changes in the serps.

I was offered choices when I set it up. Either once a day, As it happens or once a month. I dont know if it will work that way or not but, I cant wait to see the first report to see how useful it is going to be.

I've been doing it for at least 2 months. There is definitely a delay in reporting, but if nothing else, it's fun to see how your presence 'grows' even when you're doing nothing!

Will this notify you of all datacenter changes in relation to certain key phrases. Also does this allow you to track all in anchor ranks as well?

I've been using this for several months now, to track news stories on certain topics I want to track and to check for new backlinks to my sites.

You can also make it country specific if you wish... I have about 6 or 7 I receive daily.

I have been using this since it first came out. (not the news alerts, those are pretty useless). I use the search term alert, I pay for it and twice a day I get alerts for all the new pages coming up for top 30 positions for a bunch (50) of my competitive search terms that I monitor. I find it VERY useful because I know immediately when my opposition are adding pages, changing things to rank higher and when new opposition get indexed. It costs about $9.99 a month and it really saves me a lot of time. Key word tracker lets me see that I'm still at the top (or if I drop) but I can't see what else is new, who's climbing in the rankings or who could become a threat, etc. Best $9.99 I spend every month. Saves me having to check manually.

Oh, and I also pick up when people are stealing my stuff....

I used it for news on my industry and to see about links to my site; I find that it often alerts me to very old links.

    candysmith -

can you point me to the page for signing up for the search alert; I couldn't find it on the google labs page. tx.
