    1) Modern Forum Software uses next to no disk space. Typically, you're only looking at using a few hundred Mb on a vanilla installation (if that). Of course, that will vary if you allow members to upload avatars, attachments, whether or not you have an arcade etc.. even then you won't need huge amounts of disk space. A new forum will survive on the most basic of shared hosting plans.

    2) Again, it varies massively as the database size depends on the size of the forum. I've got a phpBB forum database on my laptop with 260,000 posts, 27,500 topics and 4,500 members - it's only 39mb. However, you'd have to contact your host regarding database size limits. Normally if your database gets too large the host will give you more room for expansion, in other cases they might ask you to upgrade. Again, with a new forum you'll be fine for at least a few years on a shared host.

    3) Bandwidth, as with any website depends on your traffic. I know that www. forumpromotion .net uses just under 1GB bandwidth a day, so until you get that big bandwidth isn't really anything to worry about.

If you're just looking at an average forum (maybe 50,000 posts and a few hundred users) a cheap shared host will be absolutely fine. The site I mentioned above (ForumPromotion) use a basic $3.29 / month Basic Plan from HawkHost. ;)

You can safely use a shared hosting at the beginning. I would recommend Hostgator from experience.
