    Hey DP community,
I am looking for advice on starting my new music forum. The link is:
    http://therockczar.com/forum

What new mods should I add, anything I should know or do?

Join if you'd like, we are always looking for new users!

    Thanks

I've added a few categories. I was just speaking strictly about design and maybe new mods that I can install. Anyone have good mods that I should have installed on the site?

First things first, sort your skin out. phpBB's default Prosilver style makes me want to throw dirt in my eyes - I'm sure others think that too. Default forum software has never been that appealing, despite efforts by companies like Invision Power Services to make an attractive default forum skin. There are hundreds of styles to choose from at places such as phpBB3styles.net or awesomestyles.com . Alternatively if you're serious about your board you should pay a designer to incorporate your site's design into the phpBB system. (I can offer this service for $115).

Secondly create more categories and forums. There is a large lack of places for your members to discuss music, there should be more variety to entice a wider audience. Thirdly, make your forum appear more active, nobody will join a forum that gives the impression it's inactive. This can be done by asking friends / family to help create some topics, or you can hire paid posters from DP's Content Creation forum. Other effective promotion tips include posting your topic on promotion forums, affiliating with related sites and being an active community on sites in the same niche - clearly displaying your site's link and description in your sig.

As for MODs, Quick Reply (this will be default in phpBB 3.0.6), Instant post redirect (http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=584852) and last post topic title (http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=871075). Be sure not to over-MOD your forum, not only will this leave less room for expansion in the future but will make it significantly harder when upgrading between versions of phpBB.

    Good luck :)
