    hello,

I have a new forum and was wondering what is the best way to attract new members? Should I pay for advertising on adsence or is there a better way to attract new members and keep them active?

thanks and I look forward to any ideas!!

I got members to some of my forums by finding similar forums in my niche, and then adding a link to my sig. Once I started to get to know members on the board, I'd PM them a link to my site to check out. Most of them, if I knew them well enough, were more than happy to join up and spread the word to others, too.

its hard getting new members in forums.
I suggest you use one of those softwares or script that create accounts on forums and make posts and replies automatically. And once you have created about 1000 members using such softwares, it will be much easier for you to start receiving real members registering on your forums

I find that getting good links to the sites works better than spamming through private messaging.

One thing that you need to remember is that if word gets out your a spammer, no one will want to offer you links.

Before even trying to drive any traffic (visitors) to your forum, make sure there are enough interesting threads and try to simulate some forum activity.
After that you can promote it via signatures in related forums or even social bookmarking sites.

Hire forum posters to initiate the activity in your new forum. Ask them to post under different names for every 10 or 20 threads. Have a budget to advertise your forum. Conduct competitions and offer small gifts. Load your forum with quality content which itself serve as a catalyst for the arrival of new visitors. Good luck.

yes exactly you have to hire some members who post for 2 cents/post you can find many such people on this forum start a thread in the services section you will find several people who will post.

after some post you strt getting traffic from the search engines its a slow procedure you can't built a house over night :D

You could get one of those impressive ebooks telling you how to get 50 billion people to follow you on Twitter...once you get that amount...send 'em all a message saying "join my forum or I won't follow you"

To kick start the activity initially, you will need to hire good members from other forums to post on your forum, for a fee.

After a reasonable amount of content is created, you should advertise about your forum, throwing a lucrative contest to induce people to join and post! These should hopefully set the ball...rolling! :)

Also, before you spend a moment of you time or money, make sure you are SURE that the forum you have is different enough for people to want to join. For example if you have a forum that covers the same topics as digital point then people will just go to DP instead. Make it niche and offer something different. If you cannto offer something different then dont waste your time.

Your target is forum members so the best way to get it is through forums as well.Participate on different forums then include your site in the sig if it is allowed.

To make a forum grow at a fast rate you need to essentially have it about a topic that many people are die-hard fans of such as video games, movies, marketing industries, etc. People will not just join a basic webmaster type of message board because there are already many others out there.

First and foremost - you need to know "who" your targeted audience is. What kind of people do you want visiting your forum, what are their interest and why would they go to your site?

Then you need to figure out "where" those people are at on the internet. Are they on forums, social networking sites, places like youtube, break, daily motion, twitter, my space,,,

And lastly work out an advertising program to target that audience.

Hey everyone, great information here. I just started a forum (Pow Wow Palace Forum) about 3 months ago and it's been tough trying to get new members. I'm finally seeing my site appearing in the search engines. Question, will more visitors end up coming through the homepage then through the linked pages from search engine results? Let's say I have a huge section on Las Vegas on my forum, someone Googles Las Vegas and my site comes up. This should bring them right to that section of my forum? If true, then having a lot of forums and sub forums shouldn't matter too much? Just trying to get some input to help my forum take off. Thanks
