Thanks to my friend domainiac, I was able to setup the exit script on my own site. Checkout http://succeedajobinterview.com and try to exit, and then try to exit again I will put up a PPC campaign overnight to checkout how it improves conversion rates, and would ask affiliates to try this product out, too. Basically when you try to leave the first time, it asks you to stay and gives you a discount. If you try to leave again, it gives you an even bigger discount. The product pays 75% from $50, $35 and $20 (standard price - discount - final discount). If the surfer is going to buy the product initially, he won't ever close the page, so this isn't stealing from affiliates. This is getting them more money.
This is interesting. I've sent over 200 crappy hits from which I don't usually get any conversions. And from those 200 hits I got 4 "discount 1" conversions and 3 "discount 2" conversions. And I mean the traffic I was sending is REALLY cheap.
How can we get this on our pages? Or are you just trying to tease us? PM me more info or a pitch or something.
Yes I have seen this used on a couple of those paid survey sites.. it might save a few sales with the discount.. you can practically keep doing this unlmited if you use the same java code on each sales page.. its just a simpler version of those Virtual Sales Agent chat-bots.. PS: I think people were really expecting you to put the code here free for them to try it as well
If I'm not mistaken, adwords will ban you for sending direct traffic to that. have to send to a review/landing page first. btw.. where can I get the script?
I may be wrong but I am pretty sure that adwords will not ban you for this. It is not treated as a standard exit popup. You see this script running all the time but just don't typically notice it. It is usually used with sites that have some form and it comes up and asks if you are sure if you want to leave because you will lose all your data. Even Firefox uses a version of this script when you try to close multiple tabs.
Any chance of sharing this code guys? I know of an exit pop script but I'd like to use this instead. thanks
Nice idea, although I find that I never buy from sites that use such bully tactics. Anywa, as a heads up, you may wish to put a copy of your site through a spell checker, such as that bundled with Microsoft Word, for example: "So.. how mcuh cash should you ask?" Surely this should be "So, how much cash should you ask for?"
ok everyone here is the code & instructions.. 1. Open notepad and make a standard txt file and call it : exitdisc.js using the code on between the ">>>>>>>>" START >>>>>>>>>>>> var ShowExitPopup = true; function ExitPage() { if (ShowExitPopup) { ShowExitPopup = false; location.href = "http://succeedajobinterview.com/discountfinal.php"; return '*************************************************\nOk, I really think that this guide will help you\n*************************************************\n\nSo I want to offer the best deal possible\n\nIf you click the CANCEL button, you will get an additional discount of $15, thus getting the product for $20 -- that is 60% OFF the initial price of $50\n\nYou will get the entire system for only $20.\n\nI know how it feels trying to get a new job and really think that this guide will help you!\n\n*************************************************\nClick the CANCEL button and you will get the product for only $20\n*************************************************\n'; } } >>>>>>>>>>>>>> END 2. do not include the >>>>>>>>START or >>>>>>>>>>>END.. just everything in between. you can change the paragraphs to match your site etc.. instead of what he says "OK I really think you need this..blahhh etc.. just chage it to your own words but keep all the cide in tact. 3. change your URL discount redirect page, and make sure you have a discount URL uploaded to your derver. 4. In 'Head' Tags and before the "Body' Tags of your page include the code : <script type="text/javascript" src="exitdisc.js"> </script> 5. Now after the closed '/HEAD' tags include the code: <body onbeforeunload="return ExitPage();"> 6. Thats all you need, of course you need to know some very basic HTML. Good luck please dont ask me for help as I am too busy, just follow the instructions here or google " javascript page exits" or something like that.
Can you share your current results? Edit: I put this code on my own product and bumped the price back to its origins, $47 (the final discount is the price that was for nearly a year, $27). If this works, prepare for the relaunch in 10 days. nadavs
Will Google punish a site's natural rankings for using this trick? If so I'm thinking maybe a smart thing to do would be to create a special page that has this feature that affiliates can link to - but that isn't the site's main page in the search engines... Hm... Anyway - Interesting idea.
- Google won't punish you for this - Conversions are exploding with this script, will share specific numbers tomorrow
This definitely works a treat. I had it on one of my products for a few weeks, and conversions went up significantly. Don't forget though, you can do plenty more than just dropping the price. Price isn't the ONLY reason people don't buy. * Add more value - Keep the price the same, but offer extra bonuses, personal consultations, free upgrades to better memberships, etc. * Offer more FAQs and sales copy to allay any fears they might have, and breakdown a few more barriers to purchase. Testimonials or successful case studies for example. * A newsletter opt-in. If they don't want to spend money yet, they might want some more free info via email. * Risky one: recommend your competitors via your own affiliate link (rotate your affiliate link and your affiliate's links 9:1 in their favour). If they don't like your offer they might prefer others in your niche. I'd only do this as a last ditch effort though, perhaps after several exit popups with discounts, better offers etc. * A free (or cheap) trial. $3.95 or so up front now, and then a rebill for the remaining amount in 7 days, 14, days, 30 days... whatever. Truth About Abs uses this technique to great effect. One more thing: any exit offer you make should be made with absolute urgency, and with exclusivity. Suggest that this is a test offer, or that it finishes tonight, or that it is usually only reserved for some specially qualified group of people (friends, existing customers, and so on).
Good tips. I'm going for the scenario where they buy a "trial" for $4.95 and are then billed 2 times for $20. Should convert well.
I agree. I get very annoyed by sites that use these exit scripts... BUT if it works it works! And I don't think I'm that similar to my target demo so I try not to think too much about what I would like or not like. Anyway I've just implemented this strategy on my site: http://www.thedayoffdiet.com I'm only using one exit for now, but I may add a secondary one...
I have been running this script for over a month now and sales just continue to grow. i have it installed on Beat Eczema and on SimpleHeaters.com. My top level conversions have stay consistent as well.
Made my first sale with the down-sell today. It's exciting as I know I could go about it in a much more convincing manner. I'll work on improving it now. And maybe add a second one.
