New domain vs. sub domain

I have one site that was the base for all my internet activities, it has been around for 5 years and has a steady stream of visitors. I also have a few other domains, some of them are unused or in development.

Anyway, I want to add a new forum for the main website, I can choose to put it on a sub domain for instance: forum.website.com

Or host it on one of the other domains

What would you advice? use the big site as the address or subbrand it somewhere else?

if it's related to the main website, I'd go the sub-domain route.

Especially if you main site if getting good traffic

That would be the most logical way of course, the thing is that I want the site to be managable, so a sub domain would be best I suppose, it would be the same kind of concept Digitail point has done with their sub domain.

Definately do the subdomain if the forum is related to the theme of the site.

I'd probably go with the sub-domain.

Yes, sub domains is so much easier than building a new domain from scratch.
If you have a site with decent traffic, been around for a while, decent seo, etc.
    Then sub domain there.

Plus easier to control a sub domain than an addon directory.
