I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the benefits are of building a new website instead of just having a subdomain.

e.g. imagine you have www.sonyflatscreentype1.com would it be more effective to buy www.sonyflatscreentype2.com or just make a subdomain based on the new keyword.

what are the pros and cons?

    :)

If it's on a similar niche I'd go for the subdomain. There are many advantages of using an existing site and many drawbacks to starting a new one, not least the fact that it'll take up to 9 months to get any significant search engine traffic.

The only possible reason to go with a new domain is a branding/rebranding exercise.

thanks for your reply... thats what I though but I wanted a second opinion...

A funny though just passed my mind. I remember seeing a viseo made by John Reese and how he started his VRE business. first day he made 93 cents and within a week he was doing $20+ / day - a month or two after he was on $300+ per day.

He said they were new sites with nothing special done to them... then you said that significant search engine traffic takes 9+ month (I agree with you)

I wonder how he did it or was it photoshops magic?
