New Domain Name Ideas

I currently own and run Android Advice & Tutorials (http://www.android-advice.com) and I got hit hard a while back with the EMD (exact match domain) penalty. I know that there are arguments that it wasn't a penalty but rather a reduction in the benefits that were received from the domain but have to say based on statistics it was a penalty.

At any event my question is if anyone has any thoughts on a new domain name that would allow me to keep the name Android Advice & Tutorials while having a domain name that is Google friendly without EMD implications.

Thank you all in advance :)

I've seen a number of EMDs at the top of the search phrases lately. I think that "adjustment" was just a temporary slam at sites that were relying almost entirely on the EMD bonus and perhaps too high a frequency of inbound "targeted" keywords. The bot periodically shakes things up to throw off spammers and I think this was that type of move. Most domains will probably get better results by hanging in there than trying to relocate the domain and taking the transition penalties.

One potential factor (just a guess) that may be specifically affecting your name is that it has Android, one of Google's products, in the top level of the domain. It may be getting penalized for this rather than simply being an exact match. If you have multiple domains, it might be worth comparing their movement to get a better perspective.

If you want a generic (I didn't look very hard) these are both reported available:

    smartphone-tutorials.com
    smartphone-advice.com

If you look harder you may be able to find something similar without a dash.

    Good luck

Thank you for your helpful response. I do agree that the fact Android is in the name may be a factor in the loss of traffic after the penalty and think that I may hold out a bit to see if I can recover by reducing the use of the word Android throughout. I do like the names you have suggested and may grab one just to have it in the event I need to migrate over. Thanks again.

This is an anecdotal evidence, but I don't see any change in my only EMD.

About domain name idea... your username is pretty unique, try to incorporate that into your domain name? Like mokidroid :p it's brandable and easy to remember.

Glad that you found that helpful. Ha Mokidroid is kinda cool for a brandable. Undoubtedly Mofi is long gone, that's definitely cool.

That said if you want a name that's been publicly posted, you usually want to move on it. Your out a couple of bucks (with code) if you change your mind, but if you decide later that you want it and its gone, well too late. Of course there is the risk of recklessly giving into impulses

Not sure about cutting down your related keywords, unless they are overused. Kind of a dice throw, if Google is doing some in-house brand protection its going to hit it at the domain name level hardest. Only way to find out is wait and try stuff, I suppose. Good Luck.
