Hello, I already have a hosting plan with a company and I am interested to buy a new domain from godaddy. How do you configure the domain so it will point to /public_html/site ? Thank you!
When you purchase a hosting package, your provider should give you 2 nameservers which are required for your domain to point to. As soon as you purchase the domain, log in to the admin panel and update its Nameservers, then allow 24 to 48 hours for changes to take effect. That is all you have to do. Oh, and make sure that the hosting account is configured to work with that domain name.
Thanks Clive, I believe I should use the 'Add Domain' in the cpanel to add that domain. There, except from the domain name its asks for username and password. Usrn/pass of what? Of the domain?
Which control panel does your host use? Is this the first domain for the account or another one? If you don't mind mentioning the hosts name that would help some one help you.
Well, I could guess that the username and password refer to the ftp account that will be set together with the domain name. You will need that to upload the files to the server for that domain. But yes, mentioning the host's name could help us help you more.
Hi! It uses the cpanel. Actually is a second domain that I want to point to my hosting. It supports up to 5.
With cPanel you just use the addon domain icon and it does all the work. I just went to the demo site. Just type in the domain name and directory that you want to store the files in. If the domain name is mysite.com I would use mysite as the directory name. Then type in a password you can remember. More than likely this is for ftp purposes. You may never use it but store it in a safe place. Then you change the nameservers to point to where ever your hosting is.
Thank you very very much. I really appreciate your help! I thought that the passwords had to do something with the domain company.... Thanks again!
