New Directory

I've set up a directory using the PHP Link Directory script, it's not finished yet as to design, categories etc, but I'm looking for some general advice as running a directory. (It was only a project to learn some PHP,MYSQL, html etc but now I'm going to keep it)
Should I offer free links with no reciprocal until I hit a certain amount of links, or should I accept reciprocal links only?

I have a list of just over 500 totally free directories that require no reciprocal link to submit a site to them and I was going to create some pages listing these sites as a resource for webmasters.
Can anyone give me any recommendations, feedback or category suggestions etc
    All help gratefully received.

My suggestion is remove the image validation. Real submitters hate those.

In addition to that, I recommend Entertainment / Music, Entertainment / Movies, Arts / Photography, Arts / Video, and Computer / Multimedia.

In addition to that... a health/fitness section :) I would add as many categories as you can think of. And if you get a website that doesn't quite fit in any category, make a new one for it :)
