How this occurred happens like this...

Take for example blazemp.com. If I register a new domain name today, for example blazemp2.com, and I point it to the same server/IP as blazemp.com with the same site setup on the server, when the next PR update comes, blazemp2.com would be PR7. I could then change the domain over to a different web site, and all of a sudden, I have a PR7 site. The homepage is PR7 only, though. It's basically just a DNS trick. It would go away on the next PR update (or change to whatever the new site would normally be at that point).

It's not very hard at all to spoof a Pagerank. Simply 301 to another domain, wait for it to update, and you're done. I'm sure there are other ways to do it as well though, but that is one of them.

    Kindda like this...

    PR7 site: http://www.mp3convertersoftware.com

(it was a redirect to blazemp.com but I just temporarily changed it to a site I had there at one time to demonstrate)

At first glance I was fooled. I assumed that the site just used to contain the other content. Nice catch. Interesting tool btw, that pagerank fraud detector! That just may make it to my browser bar!

Yea, I was fooled for a couple minutes too because I really didn't think about it at first, but then I thought I had better check before sending all my money. :)

Yea, but that was expected (all the internal pages are brand new) and stated up front. Of course, most of us would gladly purchase links on the PR0 pages assuming that those pages would recieve decent PR down the road, with the home page being an 8. It appears that the site is not REALLY a PR 8 site though, possibly through some less-than-ethical means. Just do a backlink check in Google and you see that the site has not so many backlinks, certainly not enough to warrant an 8!

Didn't we already establish that in the past 15 posts? I'm failing to a see a reason for people to keep concluding that it's a fake PR.

Yeah, the PR is clearly a fake and the guy you are dealing with is clearly a scammer to try and take people's money by this deception. My guess is that he used the "301 redirect" trick to redirect to the "real" PR 8 page which in fact is ptc.com (to achieve this "appearance" of a PR 8).

    Check here: http://www.google.com/search?source...s=GGLG,GGLG:2005-51,GGLG:en&q=www.dabaweb.com

Then click the cache link and you will clearly see that the ranked page is PTC.com

I hate when people do this crap - they are lower than email spammers IMO:mad:

PR 8? Sweeeet! Can't wait to see the inner pages get some PR. ;) And now I see that the PR is fake. :( That PR checking tool is very nice.

A genuine PR8 would have a shitload more backlinks then that.

Not necessarily. It is not the volume of bl's that affect PR, but the quality of the bl's. 4000 PR 0-4 bl's are nothing compared to say 10 PR 6-8 bl's (this example may not be to scale).

    YMMV.

    @ dvduval:

you were very clear about the site not being yours and that you couldn't guarantee anything about it.

nevertheless, may I ask you why or how you got involved in the first place?

maybe that sort of info would help others here.

of course, you don't have to tell us if you don't fell like it, no problem for me.

    Interesting stuff :)
is it just faking PR which is involved here for that site to get the PR8?

Fake PR takes place when the domain is redirected to the target high PR domain. This can be done on all visitors level or google agent level only. After a while, the domain will get the targetted domain PR.

We are lucky to have database-search.com handy :)

Another way to detect that is to type the domain name at google and check the back links.

Well, I try to be a helpful person. I was trying to help the owner of the site, but I grew more concerned as learned more, so I was careful to tell you as much as possible from the start.

And there have been zero submissions.
So all is well that ends well. :)
