New directory categories

I just snagged a new domain name (linkpier) and installed phpLD, but I can't figure out how to turn on the categories.

I've seen other new/demo directories where some categories were shown with a (0) next to them. I thought mine would look like that. Plus, some directories are alphabetical, and I can find that option either.

Surely I don't have to add the categories beforehand, huh?

And just when y'all were about to say: 'all we need is another idiot with a directory.'

are you using the latest version of phpld?
this is the category counter, go to admin pannel > setting > directory,
there is an option to turn on/off the counter.
    and about the alphabetical categorizing,
it's properly a paid mod for phpld,
i think someone here can help you.

I recommend creating unique categories yourself.

I'm at work now, but I know I have somewhere in my laptop the category dump working for all verions of phpLD, including phpLD 3.3 also.

So for those who are interested PM me and I will send you tomorrow the .sql file for free :)

Category dumps are useless. You are just asking for no SERP love with an almost duplicate inner linking structure to thousands of other crap free directories around.

The alphabetical mod is available at http://www.linkforever.net/pld_mods.php

    yeah it's right,
the category dump will only damage your directory,
    and no help for seo.
if you don't have time on your directory,
i recommend you DO NOT start any more spam style directory.
its properly one of the reason why google don't like web directory, drop pr and deindexed them.

Create a unique category structure. The general directories market is unbelievably saturated with utterly crap directories at the moment. (Although I do give noticeable praise to those who do the 'general' thing very well;)). However, in any case, if you're unsure, my personal favourite...
