Doesn't seem to function too well just yet, every [Read more] link I click on takes me to a page that displays the listing details for Olly's Guitar World.

There are dozens directories using smart mod rewrite for detail page.

On all my dirs I run rewrited detail pages without ID from months.
And URLs seems to be closer to homepage, not using category tree for that.

    - all search results are rewrited too.
    - all tag-cloud's search results are rewrited too.
    - all A-Z links are rewrited too.
    - all Pagerank Stats links are rewrited too.

    And more:
    - each report link is rewrited in similar way (no ID).
    And even more on LinkForever.net
    - for each PREMIUM listing that expire in 30 days - there's another rewrited link (no ID) to automated listing RENEW page.

Though I appreciate your efforts, must say you didn't discover new land ;)

    Thanks.

I would like to say one thing

    your listing detail page

http://www.linkforever.net/info/blin_biz.html (You have .biz rewrited )(www.blin.biz)

    and compare it with here

    http://www.webcolor.org/elegantdirectory.html ( www.elegantdirectory.com)

the same thing would be like

    http://www.linkforever.net/info/elegantdirectory_com.html

    Can you notice this difference?

    directory dump's listing detail page

    http://www.directorydump.com/audio-and-video-editing-software-link-497.html (Here the no)

    http://www.west2002.org/computers_and_internet/software/Audio-and-Video-Converter.html

Can you notice the difference the link Id has been taken out on both!

Can you show me where you found these errors? on which page?

I think it may be a temporary one , it works fine for me

I would like to say another thing:

let's say you have a link:
    .....yourcirectory.com/phplinkdirectory.html[/url]

    It's ok for phplinkdirectory.com

But what if owner submit a site:
    - phplinkdirectory.net (yes it exists)
    Same detail url ?

    And then org, co.uk, etc....

Think of it. This is not unique.

    What about subdomain?
Do you have right solutions for eg: subdomain.domain.co.uk (many dots :))

    And better to have: domain.com/info/link_com.html
    than
    domain/category/subcategory/subcategory/link.html

I can do with urls whatever I wish as it is configurable in Admin for each link.
Better is to have control over it.

Both urls would be indexed same time but the only problem is this may look an

    very internal page!

Better until got same domains with net, org, etc.
Still you do not have good answer for that.
I'm not even sure if you put a limit '1' in mysql query...

    Look at your link:
    ..../Breast-Reduction---Natural-Breast-Perfection.html
    You sure it is nice?
    And now this:
    http://www.west2002.org/Chelation-for-high-cholesterol-blood-pressure-&-diabetes.html
    Completely broken.

I'm sorry man - you have much more like this.
It will be real pain once you will have thousands of links.
Wonder how Google treat you for that.

It's not so simple as you think.
There can be so many variations in both: link title and link domain.
You should be careful with that.

Free, you need to make url structure like you posted for directorydump, its the best route,

    For example : abc.com/url.id.html

Otherwise you will have issues with .coms, .nets like dargee pointed out, same url for .coms, .nets and other domains.

Make it like directorydump, its the most seo friendly way. numbers do not harm the seo friendliness as they are after the main title rather than before it. And better than dargees suggestion, of having abc.com/url_com.html , numbers look way better, if you are using the title instead of domain name in the link.

I could discuss with it. I could provide you dozens of reasons...
Whatever we use I wouldn't say like you - it's better.
We can't know what is better to the end.
    Each soultion has some advantages.

However everyone has own preferences, own reasons.
I could easily use title for url - without id - still prefer to stay with my URLs.

To me, both concepts are ok and would work good.
    link_title.html & domain.tld.html

But I do see problem with just domain.html as you did and I agree with dargre that it will create problem.

But I want to know why do you think having "ID" in link page cause any problem?? I mean, in your post i can clearly see the emphasis on Non-ID version.

Personally, when I was playing with .htaccess and trying to get it done, I preferred ID version even when I could have done it without ID. So, I am just curious to know what you have against having ID in detail url.

The problem is bigger than our friend realize.
Thinkin' that once he replace '&' and ewevrything will be OK is very naive.
I could list hundred of other symbols or group of symbols that will cause broken links.
The function for having link from TITLE must be preety smart.
Still there will be a chance you will have 2 same URLs after some cutting job.
So if using it - it's better and safe to use ID in url. There's nothing wrong in it.
Just like AnOn and othesr did.
It's always good to look behind those experienced and leading in business until you feel enough sure of what you want to achieve and of that what your're able to do.
Always better are bad lookin' links than those nice but broken.

    Meaning of hard headedness:

One thing I like to say no one will allow special characters like (&,/,\etc., ) in a title of a website (I just did n't see it when I approved the link in my directory)

but it is easy to sort out these special urls also

So there will be no problem for that, the mod will work very fine.

Paid hosting:I will soon write a tutorial regarding this!

Yes there is nothing wrong in it but I wish to have some thing unique from others so only I created it

Sorry not to sound rude, but why the hell you even posted this thread, when you had nothing to share, is this thread supposed to be review of your mod, or something, cause your statement just made this threads title totally meaningless and misleading.
