I need a new camcorder. Preferably under $500.

I like to edit in Final Cut Pro and iMovie depending on the needs of the editing.

Would it be best to get a camcorder with a hard drive, or one that records to mini-dvd's? Are there some that record to full size dvds?

Any suggestions from you pros out there?

    Thanks!

I just got a JVC Everio...20 G HDD, will record in 4:3 or 16:9...has more features than I will ever use, including on camera editing. Also, it was under 500$. Got it at circuit city. Only downsize is the battery only lasts about an hour when recording and taking pics in the top mode. USB link up to any computer...I prefer that over disc, since I can then edit and stuff before burning. It also records in dolby digital and has a spot for an SD card for additional recording room.

Take a look at http://www.listvideo.com from where you can download free footage samples of latest cameras, and jusge the quality. Also has an upcoming forum to discuss about.

    Cheers
