I have to create a new business portal. I like very much joomla (i have a news portal in joomla and its great) but most of joomla templates are awful and wordpress looks like a blog. ...any advice? I've tried drupal but its no so easy for beginners thanks a lot
Nothing can match joomla if you have time to work around it. "If others can do it, You can do it too. It's only a matter of how much time you will spend to figure out how they did it."
I've seen very few sites that I really like done in joomla. I was / am using CMS Made Simple for a small business network. I'm in the process of expanding that to a 20 site network (now just 4), and I'm actually using Wordpress to do that (just working on altering the theme to get a "non-blog" look, which isn't as hard as I first thought it would be. I made that choice after seeing how incredibly well done it could look when someone pointed me to www.xxlmag.com. Doesn't look like a blog at all, right? Now, my skills are far from that, but I'm in the middle of playing with my webzine now just to make the homepage a big less "blogg-ish" - http://dev.audioxposure.com (that one's just using a basic free theme, and adding blocks to the page where it's pulling up individual category feeds in whatever format I want them to appear - the blank spaces are just b/c I haven't posted enough in certain categories yet). But it can be done, and far better than what I'm doing. There's actually a great article on the XXLmag.com design that might be worth reading here: http://www.adobe.com/newsletters/edge/july2006/articles/article6/
i have bussines portal with joomla and i'm very happy with that . have you tried to use different templates for your site
You should be considering a CMS that suits you functinality wise. It would be wrong (I think) to choose what to use according to available templates. If you're building a business portal, it would probably be needing an original design or a customized template. Having said that, any template can be converted for use with any CMS, so I'd suggest you look around for the script that you believe would serve your project best of all, and then select a template to go with it.. Two choices that should be made independently one from the other.
Thanks all of U, jhmattern, I've checked your site and its great! Well I was trying Joomla yesterday and I'll keep it, Its so flexible...I was confused beacuse I knew some very professional buesiness blogs done with Wordpress, last thing: I like Sporticus template http://www.rockettheme.com/Templates/Available_Templates/Sporticus_-_Jan07_Joomla_Templates/, I'll do some changes on it, but I prefer to do an entirely template from cero. Anyone colud help me to do a business template? cheers
