New Blog Writer- I Need Help With WordPress!

For veterans this is probably simple, but not so for me.

I have a new WordPress Blog, classroompower.com. My problem is that I cannot make categories on my blog. I made one category, but since then if I try to make a new category the form clears as soon as I hit 'add category'. The same thing happens when I try to add a category on the fly in the 'write post'. Additionally, I cannot delete the original 'Hello World' post. It comes back every time.

What do I do? The WordPress.org Support forum has been...less than helpful. Being ignored is a little off putting.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Did you install this yourself or through Cpanel?

I am new to WP so not much help but... I noticed when I make a new category, it does not appear on the site until there is a post added to that category.

Have you added a main post or page before deleting Hello World? I think maybe something has to be there to take that space.

    VGal,

Thanks for the post. The problem is not that the category is not showing up on the blog page. It is that when I try to make a category in the admin pages it just blanks the form. Nothing is made. There isn't any way to enter a post into the category because WordPress won't allow me to make one.

On the Hello World post I did make a post to take its place and it still won't allow me to delete it.

Again, thanks for the post. 17 people have been in to see the category without a comment from any of them. I was starting to feel as though I was back on Wordpress.org support forums for a bit there (heh-heh).

It sounds like you don't have admin rights to the database. Make sure you've have a log/pass that has delete/write power in your wp-config.php file.

    Hi Teachmaster J,

I had a similar problem with one of my blogs which has remained a mystery to me unfortunately. Like you I tried to gain help from the Wordpress help forums but to no avail.

The problem in my case seemed to stem from changing the address from sitename.com to www.sitename.com

This led to the problem of not being able to add categories or edit posts. I'm not sure if I would have been able to delete a post like in your situation as I didn't attempt to at the time.

I think it was a redirect problem (.htaccess seemed to be setup correctly) as when logging into admin there was no www.

To get around it I would have to add the www in the address bar once logged into admin, I would then get redirected back to login, then I'd have to login in again...but once I had done so the www was in the address bar and I could add/delete categories and edit posts etc.

The only other way i found to get around it was to change the address back to sitename.com in the general options.

Did you change the address in the Wordpress general options as in my case?

    Hope that made sense.

if your blog has little to no content, just delete it and the install the fresh one through ftp and not through cpanel.
