I just started a new blog, https://ecocrumbs.com, and wanted to know some steps I should take to get legitimate traffic to my blog? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Chris
I notice you said "inexpensive", rather than "free", so I assume you already know about article marketing, blog carnivals, forum posting, commenting on other blogs, etc. The most effective low-cost paid advertising solution I've used has been StumbleUpon Ads. You can get visitors for $0.05 per click, so you can bring in 100 visitors/day for $5/day. Keep in mind, though, that StumbleUpon Ads lets you target categories, but not keywords... so your traffic won't be as targeted as with AdWords. Still, I posted a quick-and-dirty study on my blog comparing StumbleUpon Ads results to Adwords results, and even though StumbleUpon Ads clicks were less targeted, I still ended up with more RSS and newsletter subscribers.
Many thanks, ihrowley. I too was wondering how one promotes blogs, and whether it was different from promoting ordinary sites. Your suggestions are clear and specific. However, "blog carnivals" had me stumped. What are they? Also, do pinging with Pingomatic produce real results?
Hi Chris You have a typo in your web address! Nice blog by the way. Start with submitting your RSS feed to pingomatic.com and pingoat.com also add the feeds to feedagg.com and feedage.com. John
First one would be to get rid of that https and use http instead. For more, here's some tips you might want to check out
you can also try to write and submit press release or hosting radio show at your local radio station.
If you want people who are actually going to continue to read your blog (after you stop advertising elsewhere), I highly suggest building your own network. Whether this is through means such as forums (helping as many people as possible in your area of expertise), friends (those that you already know, who might refer you on), twitter/other network, the key is to build it slowly, and if your blog/site is truly relevant, then it will expand quickly.
Thank you everyone for all the tips. I'll be busy incorporating many of them to help my blog's traffic increase. And yes, there was a typo in the web address, it should have been - http://ecocrumbs.com - sorry about that.
