Hi, I have just set up a blog type site, it is runing on wordpress but on its own domain. I want to publicise the blog but I am thinking, am I better to put some content up (about 10-20) posts before I try to publicise it or should I start marketing it now? My own thoughts was that it would be better for visitors to see the type of content that I was after when they came to the site than there be just 2 - 3 posts. Any advise would be appreciated please. Cheers Hopper
Well if it are nice postings just start. And try to uotdate it everyday so after a week you got 3+7=10 postings.
Cheers no1san, Is there a too many posts a day rule? I have managed 5 posts in 2 days and tomorrow I was looking to put another 4 posts up. Fortunately the topic of the blog is quite broad and so I can still include quality posts as well as a large number a day to begin with. That was the reason for the question, I was thinking along the lines of 10-20 posts, then going down to 1 a day and starting my marketing then. Anymore comments? Hopper
Frequent posting when first starting a blog is more important than the rythem that you will eventually settle into.
Cheers for that, but would you start to market the blog straight away or wait until I have generated more content? Hopper
What I do with new blogs is start posting regularly, then post in forums to get indexed. I don't worry about marketing for awhile, because there's no point in having traffic but nothing for them to come to. If you have 10 posts already, then you could start doing some networking to get your link out there, but I would focus more on posting quality content than marketing for now. Unless of course you've got something really juicy already. Then by all means go ahead and market the crap out of it...just don't forget to keep posting to keep your current traffic coming back.
in my opinion, i'd go with 5-10 sticky posts (where content is really compelling and sucks your readers in). when i go to a new blog and find at least 2 posts i like, i'm quite certain to book mark it. at the beginning you can blog 2-3 times a day and spread it out the posting interval so it looks more organic. in the beginning i'd focus on content development rather than adsense or affiliate marketing cos you're establishing your credentials. initially my blog www.whoisandrewwee.com was very broad, going into internet marketing, but over time i've found that focusing on my 2 pet areas: blogging and affiliate marketing has helped me establish a loyal readership. also participating in blog writing projects (like what you see at Darren Rowse's ProBlogger.net Writing Project) has helped me increased my visibility too. from my blog's AWstats (awesome stats), my demographic is largely from my home country (Singapore) and the US, but I am getting about 20% traffic from places like australia, korea, taiwan, the UK, and even as far as germany and the united arab emirates. it's quite fun. and i'm sure it'll be that way for you too!
I agree with andreww in that I would create 5 to 10 very compelling posts before I start to seriously promote your blog. First impression is everything and if a new visitor comes by and you have hardly any content, their impression will be you have hardly any content which, generally is not a strong trigger for someone to return.
I had been hired to blog for a buyer previously and she had me blogging for almost a month, producing three new blogs a day on ideas how to make money from home (duh!) and we ended up with 90 blog posts before she starts marketing. I believe it is a good idea to have some really compelling posts, the more the better or you will disappoint your readers and they probably won't be back to check out your blog in the future. So I would go for more posts say at least 20 before you start any marketing work.
