sabian1982, why would you go somewhere else? Probley no reason at all! But I think it can never hurt to have lots of choice.
I already have choice... google, yahoo, msn, ask... At the end of the day if you think you can make it succeed go for it but unless you've got an 'edge' then your unlikely to succeed unfortunately. Best of luck anyways.
I just tested out your engine and I see what could be a major issue. Searching for my site shows results with my url and the wrong picture/link Search results
routed11, we use our own system for make web thumbshots also our own system ranking and we are on beta stage, we solved some part of the problem, we will investigate more the issue. The Ipselon name it’s a combination of ip (internet protocol), se (search), l (Linux) and on We are looking to make some changes on design.
I love it. I almost always use Yahoo for non-technical searches like "Liger Pictures" and I use Google for technical searches like "JSTL if statement". With your site I could search for both and pick from the Google or Yahoo results. I probably won't use it because I like to use the search bar that's integrated into the upper right hand part of my Opera and FF browsers and the name isn't all that easy to remember. Good luck...
My only impression from the entry page was that it is based on Google, Yahoo and MSN as opposed to be a new search engine. Since my main site is showing up for its search terms, I would need to review my logs to see if Ipselon is indexing me on its own. The idea of including a picture of the web pages is interesting, but it does slow down the page loading. There is certainly room for another major search engine. My son lives in rez at university and he reports growing unhappiness with and hostility toward Google. Time is very compressed on the internet and it is impossible to know how soon the next "thing" will emerge. However, I doubt that being marginally quicker at returning essentially the same information is enough. The magic is giving people what they didn't realize they needed.
Also, I like the google button and yahoo widget but I would seriously consider a toolbar of your own. I might even try to partner with an application to put an installer in and/or offer an affiliate program for toolbar installations. Search is a competitive business and it will take some $$ to get it off the ground. BTW, check your email.
Gee really? He did kinda say that, and it still is classed as a Search Engine, meta-search engine, so would you class Dogpile as not a search engine?
Uh-oh here it comes "gonna take some money" and "check your email" together = trying to sell you something.
Actually James, I sent an email in response to an inquiry from him. If I am going to sell something it will be in the buy/sell forum. I have never spammed a DP member and nevere will. The type of money it is going to take to launch a search engine is way past anything I do. To get a search engine off the ground tens of thousands of dollars will have to be spent in advertising on prominent sites, application development for the toolbar and application integration, affiliate payouts, etc. Unfortunately, I do not run a site prominent enough to command this type of advertsing (Alexa 5,000 and up). Sure wish I did. Also I am not an application develper.
omgoodness i didnt realize so many companies are still trying to compete in the SE WORLD< which big players like google and yahoo and live
We are a Meta search engine but we have our web thumbshots crawler and our unique ranking system. Many Meta search engines haven't a crawler and have the same system ranking as hundreds. On the top of results you can compare engine's results, we want to be a useful tool and provide to user quality results. Other Meta search engines mix results and sponsored links inside the results... or they hide from where get is results and say: ‘We are a true search engine… ‘ If somebody doesn’t like the left thumbshots can hide it with one simple click to the right button option on results.
I think this is a good try, but getting rid of Google and all those big Search Engines would be the best if you have your own crawlers. There are Search Engines that does not require of such dinosaurs to make a decent performance online, i.e. www.ditto.com
