    Hey..

Love the avatar mod.. but isn't it a little taxing on a forum of this caliber ? my FF has been playing up heaps this week so it could just be me but is anyone else seeing a slower loading time ?

It doesn't add any load on the server since there are no additional SQL queries needed. As far as the client-side, it shouldn't affect it too much unless your browser isn't adhering to the "Cache-control" HTTP directive. As long as your browser IS adhering to it, your browser should never need to download a user's avatar (or even check if it's modified) until 365 days after it downloaded it.

A quick network check in my browser confirms that it's not downloading them on page views (unless you have never seen the avatar in the last year [which includes inside threads]).

See how they are all coming straight from the browser cache (this was a new browser session)?

Ahh ok, Cheers Shawn. Nice mod by the way :)

I am on a fresh win 7 install.. and as far as the pc is concerned it's running fine it's firefox that i think is the issue.. XF based sites none of the popups / permalinks / quicknav seems to be working for me.. a few days ago this may sound crazy / stupid but i had to shake the mouse to get pages to load it's settled a little the past few days now i was at the bank the other day and they were using firefox where i had to log in and the woman said just shake the mouse or the page wont load i thought she was a little dippy until i got home and started getting the same thing.. ive re-installed ff and still no better.. anyways sorry i should of known you wouldn't of added any extra load here.. just thought of all the sites i use dp just didn't seem the same.

    Cheers

Yeah, it's kind of sad what has happened to Firefox the last couple years. It gets slower and more buggy with every version. When I realized that Chrome's built in Developer Tools were better than FireBug, I finally made the switch, and now when I load up Firefox, it's a painful experience after being off it for awhile. lol

have to agree while i run almost all browsers for testing of my themes / styles etc i generally only use ff for daily use.. ive noticed ff get a little heavier.. had no idea chrome had better dev tools that i will look into.. xf based sites are running fine in that.
