You can pretty much make money in any niche if you produce a quality site with either a good service to offer or good content. Just make sure you pick something you are interested in. Good luck.
Now if I knew the best niche to make money in, would I be using my time telling others about it, or profiting from it? First rule, like said above, pick something that you're at least semi interested in, it will make things 10x easier.
lol, if anyone here knew the best niche to make money online, we probably wouldn't be here at DP looking for help... Anyway though, IMO the more popular niches are health and fitness, anything mortgage related, gambling, sex sites to an extent (limited marketing resources)...
Man, I would encourage you not to get into something that makes good money for other people, but instead start a website around something YOU are passionate about. I'll help you out, tell me a few things you like doing, and I'll try to throw some ideas out to you. The problem with starting a website about something you aren't passionate about is that it often takes months to be able to really see any results from a website (especially a content related site), you'll get bored with it and quit before you ever make a dime. When you are passionate about the topic, you're more likely to stick with it.
Well you can't just say that law, credit, gambling, etc... are the top niches to make money. Yes, they do pay out EXTREMELY well, but the niches that pay EXTREMELY well get EXTREMELY competitive. The best idea is to take a very strange niche (take: Hepatitis C into Google Keyword Tool). Gather some keywords with solid search counts (make sure you are searching on exact). Once you have 15 or so keywords, start typing them into psychicwhois.com and see if you can get a TLD (.com/.net/.org) with the highest search count possible. Then write 15 articles, post them, and sell it here or flippa.com. That stuff is more clear in the guide in my sig if you wanna check it out.
