New Amazon Associate. Need Some Help or Tips Please.

    I have a forum site where I post deals on specific amazon products. I started by using Amazon's Build Link tool where you input the product url and it spits out another url with your id embedded.

    Since I know pretty much nothing, I am wondering if there is a better way to do this? I see some mention of some other Amazon tools, but I can't seem to figure out if there is a better way to do this.

    Also, can I just add my &tag=xxxxxxx to any amazon product link and that will be ok with Amazon?

    This is the default link which you can use instead of the Amazon build links, it should still work :

    <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/INSERT_ASIN_HERE/YOUR_ASSOCIATE_ID_HERE">Product Name</a>

    I find the "ref=nosim" tag in the link works better than a generic text link, it sends the reader directly to the product page and has increased my sales rate by a factor of two.

    <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/INSERT_ASIN_HERE/ref=nosim/YOUR_ASSOCIATE_ID_HERE>

    How new is that ref=nosim tag? Sounds like a great idea and I'd like to hear from anyone who has tried it with success.

    It's not new at all, been available for about 3 or 4 years, if I remember correctly, and I have been using them on my ASM2 product pages - I have two buttons actually, the first button says 'Explore Similar Items' and the second button says 'Buy From Amazon'. The second button has the /ref=nosim/ include while the first one did not.

    I'm still a bit confused about the syntax of this link:

    <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/INSERT_ASIN_HERE/ref=nosim/YOUR_ASSOCIATE_ID_HERE>

    1. What is the ASIN?
    2. Where do you find the ASIN?
    3. Where it says "ASIN/Insert Asin here", do you put this number in twice?

    Thanks for any clarity on this.

    1. What is the ASIN?
    ASIN stands for Amazon Standard Identification Number. Almost every product on our site has its own ASIN--a unique code we use to identify it.
    2. Where do you find the ASIN?
    You will find an item's ASIN on the product detail page alongside further details relating to the item
    3. Where it says "ASIN/Insert Asin here", do you put this number in twice?
    No only where it says "Insert Asin here"

    Got it. So a correct link would be:

    <http://www.amazon.com/>

    If so, this is much better than the extremely long links I was getting from the Link Builder!

    Just go to the Product links section and there you would be able to find "build text links" option. Rest would be self-explanatory. Just put the code in your webpage and your good to go.
