New Adsense user and seeing results after the first month

Im totally new to adsense. Beyond reading a few articles and youtube 'instructional' where everyone photoshops their weekly revenues, this is my first foray into adsense. But so far it seems to be going well.

The site was launched early aug so far this month of sept is averaging 2$ a day. Well below my goals but acceptable considering the age of the site. Around 1,000 search visits a week. Theres 700 original and unique posts on the site so far and that number increases 10 to 15 per day.

Theres been no real effort to generate back links through article submissions to other blogs or anything like that. But then again I wouldnt know where to start.

I tried using link ads but they just didnt look appropriate at all even when we matched the colors.

So there ya go. Just kinda throwing my name into the hat here at digital point and i'll be reading through the forums and articles so I avoid asking already answered questions.

That's a great start! I'm still trying to optimize my sites to start getting more clicks now that the search traffic is picking up.

This is an excellent way to start. When I started a few years ago, I didn't make that much for a few months!

great start, friend... with a little more work, getting good backlinks, and getting more traffic, you could be earning more with adsense that you can even dream of.

i should clarify. 15 posts a day is our average per business day. were trying to do more and release them on the weekends but thatll come later. 70% of the time they are articles about 500 words long. other times its super long posts, something like two paragraphs or just a picture.

is it our content? yep. im looking through the posts now and not seeing any press releases, wiki entries, or some tiny copy-paste-link entry. i dont think i've ever seen something that isn't ours go up but im not seeing all the content everyday so in a world of possibilities that might be one but if so its incredibly minor.

theres been maybe a handful of days where sometimes goes wrong. like today we had an error with the site and had to focus on that for the entire day so we only squeezed in 5 posts ( and they were pictures, ugh). but i could count on my hand that number of times thats happened.

the site gets about 1,000 search visits a week ( not day) and 3000 pageviews from search a week. theres referral traffic from fb and developer traffic so i dont really look at all visits as an accurate measure. yesterday i noticed one visitor using netscape. i thought that was funny.

not sure what the adsense tos covers, but ya the ctr rate is horrible low. still have to figure that out. were using two 300x250 blocks to the right of the post with two widgets between them. but given the low percentages, that should be adjusted.

Figured Id post an update. We were with bluehost on a shared server getting throttled a lot. We moved to host gator on level 3 vps. it still takes a few seconds (i've seen reports ranging from 4.4 to 10.5) to load up and I know it can get faster but Im not sure how. Were up to 900 posts as of today. Getting pingbacks two or three times a day. Mostly robot news sites though. About 1 comment a day. analytics has been acting wierd As of 5pm today were at 1,700 pageviews, 1,000 from search. It stopped reporting for a day then reported our traffic cut down about 70%. after a week i put in another adsense code and now the old one says 600 pageviews and the new one says 1,700. *shrugs* Adsense swings a lot. Averages 5$ a day but can hit $13 on occasion. ctr remains horribly low. still brainstorming and researching ideas on how to build an email list with this traffic. we have a newsletter widget but thats not performing.

Were running wordpress. I wouldn't be against having someone go through the site a few times and show us a few ways to better target our keywords. Any suggestions on who to talk to?

Update. Figured a way to get the site to load faster. Were running OIO publisher to manage our direct sale ads. Its hard to describe but we had 3 ad spots for each of the 15 categories. So we had 45 oio spots running. We reconfigured it so oio runs per category so now 45 spots is now 15. Also a few of the advertisers uploaded huge files for their adverts. I shrank and optimized them.

Up to 970 posts. 5200 spam comments, 92 legitimate comments.

Changed our permalinks. It was www.xxx.com/date/category/post. Now its www.xxx.com/category/post. Didn't loose any traffic bc of a redirection plugin. ( and didnt see a big drop in site performance like wordpress warns against)

Adsense still goes wild but its slowly creeping up. Our revenue so far this october is the same for all of september. It averages 7$ a day now but hit $18 a last week and $10 a few days ago. ctr still .5%

Google analytics says visits at 8000 a week now, 4000 from search. Pageviews at 15,000 a week, 8000 from search. (what would you do with a 1,000 search visitors a day?!?!?!). Awstats says 60,000 pageviews a day (lol)

Started using webmaster to measure our keyword rankings. Its frustrating. Such a hard time ranking the keywords we want. Were using the all in one seo to add the category title to the title tag. Not sure if that will help. Earlier today, I submitted to a paid directory using the keyword we want as the title. I thought about a link building service but everything i've read is either a sales pitch or a warning against using the services.

Is your site a WordPress blog or a conventional website?

You should not fret on low CTR, it's the way it is, and the only way is to get heaps of traffic in the hope something sticks.
