Never mind all that, what about Harry Potter!?

If you are an Amazon affiliate, you ought by now to have seen their announcement of the impending release of the new Harry Potter book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", whatever THAT means! The main rumour is that Harry could get killed off in this supposed last (seventh) installment!

You can add a link/i-frame banner etc. pointing to an Amazon pre-orders page for the book, and generate referrals.

Hey, we could have a little contest here on the forum - see who can sell the most copies of the darned thing!!

p.s. I have never read any Harry Potter books, or seen any of the films, I'm more of a Tolkien man myself. Exciting though, isn't it!? No?
p.p.s. You can see a hastily inserted banner on my It's Gotta Be Red page below (well, the banner is sort of red!)

With over 400,000 impressions on a general site, I got 3 preorders using the small banner. I'm impressed, actually.

I am about to make it my featured book, and throw some keywords for it around the site as it will be big for a few months.

yeah, grab the money and run!

By the way, what happens with preorders? Do the orders even show before delivery of the book? I am certainly guessing you don't get paid before then...

naah, I dont think so. You get paid when the guy who pre-orders it pays the bucks. Why would amazon hold out the payment till its release?

Correct. If they decide to back out on the preorder it works just like a return, and a negative credit. It's not like they are putting a deposit down, they are paying in full.

So is it conceivable that I have thousands of preorders lined up that I don't know about, and I will have a nice surprise in June? :)

(not likely, given the amount of traffic I see!)

Why would amazon hold out the payment till its release?

I believe that you can't bill a credit card more than 30 days in advance of delivering the product. At least that's what happened when my last book was released. Until the book is ready for delivery there is no product.

I think anything with Harry Potter in it can bring some money! Why not take advantage of it?

I have it on my sites, but no orders yet. Probably my site is too far down the 'Harry Potter' SERP to do any good.

Why not try to find niche Harry Potter lovers? Put some ads on your "Cheese-making tips" page, or whatever? You are right, no chance of getting a look in on the SERPS!

aah, you should have used it. Concentrating on SERPS for only the 7 book would have done wonders I'm sure...!

If this weren't the last HP book I would start SEO for Harry Potter 8 immediately after 7 came out, oh well.

There are plenty of other series of books/movies/games this will work with.

AMAZING!! I JUST MADE MY FIRST CONVERSION OF HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS.................:) :) :)

Its still sinking in, quite a big thing for me since its not only my first harry potter conversion but my first amazon product conversion also - and that too from a blogspot blog.

the blog is wazzhot.blogspot.com where i always have a section of posts dedicated to harry potter.

But though I can see a conversion in my stats, they havent mentioned any commission yet. Any idea how much I get from selling the standard edition of deathly hallows?

Well done! Well you won't get paid until the book gets shipped, of course. But it should be your regular commission - depends which tier you are on, but you are probably on 4% if you are just starting. So you have solved our mystery, the sale SHOULD show in your stats, even though it's a preorder.

Well that's blown a hole in MY theory that I have hundreds of referrals piling up just waiting to show on my report when the book sees release :)

yeah, I just checked..I'm on the classic system - 4%. But then I clicked on performance based system and it says I'l have to wait 24 hours and then I'l be accepted in that. I hope there's no catch in joining the performance based system - I couldn't find any after checkin everythin.

Yeah, th sale IS showing in the stats...!

    lol @ your theory :D

    but 4%.......shit, thats less than a buck :( .

    But anyhow, I managed a conversion :)
