Never Installed SSL Before. What to expect? What's Wrong With This Picture?

We just installed a SSL certificate on a site we are working on and are not sure what is going on. We can see our site at the http://mydomain.com but when we go to https://mydomain.com all we see is an "Index of" page with a cgi bin folder on it.

When we enter http://www.mydomain.com to view our site shouldn't the url in the address change to https and our site should remain visable?

    Any help would be great.

You seems have http and https are located in 2 different folders. You might need to re-create symlink. Do you have any control panel?

I am not using cpanel for a while, but you might want to check
    - document of cPanel (I found this, not sure if you have followed all steps http://www.cpanel.net/support/docs/11/cpanel/sec_ssl.html)
    - where the public_html and private_html folders are located

When you have more info, we will have better view for assisting

Thanks for that great link. That seems to be the problem. Step 1, 2, and 3 on the link you provided are pretty straight forward and that is what we have done. But step 4:

Step 4: Activate SSL on Your Web Site (HTTPS)

This step must be done prior to using your SSL Certificate.

    1. Click on the Setup a SSL certificate to work with your site link.
    2. Select the domain you are using to install a SSL Certificate from the "Domain" drop down menu. The system will attempt to "Fetch" the SSL Certificate for you. If you receive an error, please contact your web hosting provider for further support.

We can not find this link in our cpanel. How to activate the ssl cert. Do you know where we can find this?

It should be around that place. As mentioned, I am not using cPanel for a long time, so I am not sure how to tell you. But if you want, pm me your cPanel login, I can take a quick look

If you don't already know you can only have 1 SSL account per IP. What happens is the traffic is sent to the server encrypted and all encrypted traffic gets routed to the same folder.
