Network Solutions

Hey, I thought I'd share something which I experienced with Network Solutions.

I'm not sure if this happens regularly, but I'll post about it anyway.

Recently I designed a web tutorials/articles site. The site was called Wild Fire Web Design. Hence I was thinking of using http://www.wildfirewebdesign.com because it was available.

So I went on the hunt for finding a cheap reliable web hosting plan. Foolishly, I went onto Network Solutions and entered the domain name I wanted to use, to see what the prices were. As the days went on I finally chose the host I wanted to use. which was Host smart.

So I enter in the domain name that I wanted and noticed that wildfirewebdesign.com was taken.. I tried a few variations, such as wildfiredesign, wildfirewebdesigns, firedesigns.. A whole heap.. but I noticed ALL of them were taken. At this point I was quite frustrated as my whole web site evolved around the 'fire' theme. So with frustration I used the 'whois' tool to see who had bought the web page.

Surprisingly it was Network Solutions. Consequently I tried to register my domain name with them and it was available, for about 10 times the regular price! It worked out to be a hefty price for a 5 year period.

So a few weeks later I changed wildfire web design to Explosive Web Design and made sure the first time I entered the name onto a web hosting site, was when I was ready to purchase it.

I'm not sure if Network Solutions are good or not, but I wouldn't suggest placing your domain details into them, or any domain hosting company until you are ready to purchase it!

    Hope this is useful.

Hi, nice, Thanks for this info however I avoided NS after I saw their renewal price were. OMG!!
Also are you sure www.wildfirewebdesign.com is not available? Seems like available to me currently. Try using name.com checking. Very simple and nice to check tld variations. :)

Anyway, try using other checkers before making a big decisions. Personally I think explosive looks nice but I could see fire a better name@short.:)

You can ask help here on DP also you know..

Yeah, it's been a few months.. I noticed it became available.. probably because I didn't buy it and they noticed no body else was going to.. but I'm positive it was bought by network solutions for a month or two

Network Solutions was the first and worst offender but other registrars do it now too.

It's available now, but right after you look up a domain with them, they grab it, so that if you want to buy it anytime soon, you have to get it from them.

Network Solutions has been an evil company for a long time. With bad service and the highest prices in the industry, it's hard to understand why anyone uses them.
