    Hey guys,

I bought a domain name with Network Solutions and didn't do anything with it and decided to let it expire. I am still keen to use the domain name but didn't want to get locked in with Network Solutions at a steep $35/year when there are loads of companies that do it for less or free if you also sign up for hosting. So I let it expire and was hoping to re-register it with another company but it's not letting me. I just read a post below about a waiting period before I'll be able to register it again... does anyone know how long this is for Network Solutions?

Also... what the hell is the deal with them? Why do they charge so much for domain names where other companies only charge $5? I registered with them because I didn't know any better at the time. I've also got a domain with them that is very old... is there any way of wrestling the domain name away from them and renewing it with a cheaper company?

    Thanks!
    Kirsty

Been there, done that with NetSol. I'm with Go-Daddy now, for that very reason. As for the expired domain name, it usually takes 45-60 to get out of redemption period, and more than likely it might get snagged by SnapNames, or something like that. IMO, it might cost you less money to contact NetSol and see if they can re-register it for you, as $35 for the year is better than the $60 minimum bid for SnapNames.

    Hope this helps!

You need to renew domains before they expire or else it will cost you more to renew it with the same registrar.

I am an eNom reseller and have customers who have to transfer their domains over from NetSol all the time. Before you pay for a transfer at any registrar you have to Unlock your domain, it's sometimes called Registrar Lock. Once you change this, you wait a day or so and then pay for the transfer at another registrar. A couple of emails later you should be able to transfer it and it will still take a few days before your new registrar will show your domain.
