Stay away from Network Solutions! After using their domain search for years they have decided to put a new feature in place that will automatically register any available domain your search returns ending in .com under their name and from that moment you can't register it with any other company as they are trying to extort you themselves. I figured this out today after losing 3 quality domains to them because I refuse to pay %600 more for my domains through NSI. guess they have realized that people are using their search, buying the domains elsewhere for a COMPETATIVE RATE, and they aren't getting any domain business because of their ridiculous prices. Instead of doing what any other business would do and lower their domain prices to be around what everyone else is charging they decided to hijack the domains their users search for and extort them. I honestly dont' even know how this is legal, I have heard of domain tasters but a registar that is tasting domains can't be accepted by ICANN, at least I wouldn't think so... Anyway I would avoid Network Solutions like the plague.... That is what I am doing now anyway...
If that's happening just do a few thousand names like viluvroaisuhvqia.com oieufrhgsieruv.com eufhvbwervbh.com I think you get the idea. It would make them stop. LOL
I actually have but I am sure it's all automated so unless a ton of people do it and bog down their system some how they will continue. Just amazing that one of the first domain registrars ever would do such a shady thing....
This story was on Digg.com so I think they will be doing something about it. I can't see why people would ever dream of using another registrar either than Godaddy!!! At least with them you know what you get.
They can get away with it because of the tasting feature, so it doesn't matter how many people bog down their system with silly names, it doesn't cost them anything. I agree it is a bad idea from them!
Exactly, they have six days I think to hold a domain without having to buy it. The only way to fight back is to stop using their service.
yeh, that news is going around for a while. besides, why would someone register a domain with them where they charge an insane rate of $35 per domain. we can get it for a fraction of a cost with lot of other hosts
