[Network Problem] Wireless Getting Signal, But No Internet Connection

I have a laptop which is using a wireless connection to my router. So everything was working fine up until a week ago, the internet just stopped working. It still receives a wireless connection and on the status it shows that it's connected and the signal strength shows Very Good, but it doesn't receive any internet connection nor does it show up in my workgroup network.

I tried doing ipconfig /release /renew but stil doesn't work. I also did the loopback ping thing and pinged 127.0.0.1 and it worked fine so I know that there's nothing wrong with the Wireless card itself. I also tried out the card on another computer and it worked fine.

Also when I go to ipconfig /all it shows that NetBIOS over TCP/IP: Disabled, so could that be the problem? If so how can I go about enabling that?

I'm not sure how the problem occured, it just happened when the plug came out accidentally and it shut off, then it just stopped working after that.

Also I have another PC which is also using a wireless connection and it has the same problem. Both computers are in the same room and have the same surge protector so both shut off and came back with this problem.

But I'm sure it's not a problem with my router or anything because I tried it out on another PC and it worked fine and also works fine on my PSP.

Also when I go to Network Connections and try to Repair the wireless connection it shows and error and says something along the lines of:

Cannot purge or reload something over NetBT.
    Failed to something WINS.

Sorry don't know exactly what it said but something like that.

    Can anyone help please?

Hi I had the same problem with my wireless connection before, I was using Lynksys and when we contacted the tech support we found out that we need to upgrade the router and other stuff my hubby took care of everything. you might need to contact technical support, to where you purchase your router. Hope that your problem will be resolved in no time.

Router is already upgraded, but it's no problem with the router because wireless internet still works on my PSP and also on another computer which I tried it on with the same wireless card. So I don't know what's wrong.

Somehow, something with the TCP/IP settings got messed up I'm assuming, but I'm not sure where to go and fix that.

When I type in ipconfig /all into cmd prompt it shows NetBIOS over TCP/IP: Disabled, and also DHCP: Disabled, so I'm thinking that's the problem? But where do I go to enable those?

What operating system are you running? If you are running XP, it might be that when your computers lost power they shut down the TCP/IP and DHCP services...

    To restart the services go:
    1. Start
    2. Control Panel
    3. Administrative Tools
    4. Services
    • Look for DHCP Client
    • Right Click
    • Click on Restart
    • Make sure that Start Up Type is listed as Automatic
    then
    • Look for TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
    • Right Click
    • Click Restart
    • Make sure that Start Up Type is listed as Automatic
If the service Start Up Type is not listed as Automatic:
    1. Right Click the service
    2. Click Properties
    3. On the General Tab Click the drop down box for Start Up Type and select Automatic
    4. If any prompts come up follow the prompts.
Hope this helps, PM if I can be of any further help
