Ok about a month ago, I purchased hosting from Netfirms using this deal: http://www.netfirms.com/max My sites recently just got really popular, about 100K per day. I keep on getting Internal Server Error. I contacted them and this is what they said: " due to your sites using more CGI resources than you have been allotted." Is there such thing? What can I do? I am loosing people by the minute. Another question how can I switch server without any downtime? If I plan on switching? Regards,
Ofcourse there's such a thing. That's why they can get away with big plans at cheap prices. They have to protect themselves some way. Find another host, upload your files. When everything is up, go to your domain registrar and change nameservers. It becomes more complicated if you have databases.
Yea, I have databases. Thats why I don't want to move servers. Then there is the DNS update, etc. Losing customers... The servers are in toronto, canada maybe you can talk to them...
haha, sure sure... well if you need assistance let me know I've moved lots of databases that were busy
I have been with Netfirms for a year and I'm reasonably unhappy. Don't count on them to do anything to help your $10/year account. They like to charge for things I haven't ordered and upgrade without warning. They also won't help you with moving, and expect mysterious problems if you tell them you are considering this...I was charged and refunded three times in one month despite lengthy e-mail and phone conversations with customer service. You could start with a new host using a new domain which is similar (its sound like your site is successful enough to warrant this) and do a redirect until you have a chance to properly move your site. But do not talk to Netfirms about this, you will likely get unauthorized charges for upgrades and other such abuse. By the way, can I advertise on your site?
