This theory is not plausible unless you are comparing two sites that have identical content but different extensions.
.com has the most commercial value. If that's unavailable, no harm going with .net. Country TLDs are also okay from business perspective.
Hi, Google give respect to .gov and .org ... Other website like .com .net .us .ca etc get respect if they have quality content unique one proper web site navigational structure site maps no duplicate content proper page to page optimization no broken links meta tags are well organized no unnecessary keyword repetition per page quality back links from similar service,,biz or products websites having same content growing continuity ( like website content change every once in week ) so keep adding more pages restrict number of outgoing link less than 20 per page ..don't send out going links to bad website .. getting back links from .gov or .org is a booster .. getting link from higher pr than your website .. proper deep linking technique and almost other SEO tech if you want to know PM me
.NET sucks, especially when it comes to word of mouth, if soemone hears yoururl.something they will likely only remeber the yoururl part and assume its .com so alot of people who saw advertising for your .net will go to the .com and you just advertised for them instead of yourself.
rainborick I agree. A generic TLD (ex .com) may be shown in the results of "national " searches (let us say, "pages fom UK" searches) only if UK has been selected as country target (ggle webmaster tools) or the site has been hosted in the UK
I agree .com is easy to remember but as far as the rankings are concerned They make no difference, and that you can set geographic targets in webmaster tools...
I choose .com more than .net but if it is a really good name and .com taken it i would choose .net also
if you have unique and interesting content then you don't have to worry about anything ... for google content is most important thing after that back links if you have both in good quality then google don't care what you have .com or .net
For Google it can be even a .info But for companies and business, maybe I prefer the .COM .. but.NET is acceptable.
