    Hi,

Firstly is it worth buying a .net domain name rather than .com?

Secondly, should you only park domains that a person will type in? Or do search engines find parked domains too?

    Matt.

Dot Coms are always better than Dot Nets in theory but in practice it is usually the website with a better ranking and quality material that is worth more.

Type in traffic usually and almost always goes to Dot Coms. And yes, search engine bots do find parked domains too.

Will and should find the site anyway unless you block access with a robots txt file.

If you are going to park your domain, then buy .com domain. Always .com 's resale value is much better than .net value. However if you are going to put up a site and develop it, then the extensions does not matters much.

    OK - thanks.

Last thing... what about .co.uk names. I bought one recently - will it have a good resale value?? Better than what a .net would be worth? But not as good as a .com? Or better?

.co.uk is specific to a country code. So, if you have a good name in .co.uk and if you can find a buyer from UK then it would be good. If not, its better to opt for .net as it is a global extension.

    My opinion: .com > .net > .co.uk

and just to clarify there is no point parking the domain buycarhere.com because people will not type it in?! better to buy car.com. right?!? I am thinking people who park domains attract people who type domains in not people who use search engines.

You are correct. You may also opt to park domain to resell it after few years for a better price. But, check if the domain is worthy for that kind of an investment.
