Nervous about redesign of my website

    Hi,

I'd like to get some opinions from knowledgeable people. I've been wanting to do re-design of my website. At the moment, all the files are in the root:
    www.mydomin.com/index.php
    www.mydomin.com/review.php
    www.mydomin.com/contact.php and so on.

I want to put them in a sub-folder for an obvious reason:
    www.mydomin.com/my_collection/index.php

BUT I'm afraid that I'm going to fall from No.2 position
What would be the best practice in this case. I mean, at some point, we all need to update, re-launch a website!?

Is Redirect 301 the best way?

    very anxiously....

yes i've heard that 301 redirects are the best way to tell the search engines that a page has permanently moved. i am redeveloping an ecommerce site which has excellent rankings, so i'm trying not to lose them!

I use 301s and the pages maintained their site standings
