Do you know of a file-hosting service that has lasted beyond 10years? File-sharing is a dead-end. It is not a viable business model because the companies always close shop within a few years. It is very simple. You cannot make money with a company that folds up.
Forced to disagree with you. DepositFiles was founded in 2006 and still works. Turbobit was founded in April 2008 and still works as well. Still need to give examples of running file services? Who wants to work for the long term that works. And who wants to break the bank quickly ... well, sorry, there are such craftsmen in any field. We are designed for long-term prospective work. We do not set a goal - to earn and leave in English.
So having that in mind. Are you already closing your business? It seems you're out of new servers more than a week.
There is no future in file-sharing. It is just a matter of time before the all close down. Read my article: The Death of File-sharing
Well, I decided to test this service since I saw this latest post; I uploaded for sharing a couple dozen of files, total of some 100 MB, mainly .pdf and .jpg files. The impression was so-and-so: 500 GB free space is something that no-one else offers, that no. 1 selling point, actually the main reason I decided to join. Interface is simple and user-friendly. Upload and download speeds are good. The only negative point until this morning, there is no https connection. This morning, I received mail from them, stating "These files were expired or deleted by administrator from your account:...", and nothing else. I didn't see any notification that files expire after certain period of time, I have checked ToS again, and there is no mention of expiry period. I was not aware of that, and I feel administrator should first alert me that files will expire several days or one week in advance, so I have time to react. This way, deleting files and just subsequently sending me a list of deleted files, it's a big no-no. I guess the mission of free service is to show features to a user and convince him that pro version is worth purchasing. This way, I'm afraid it will not work. That's in line with statement from their relatively simple ToS: "We make no claims of future reliability in serving, hosting or storing your images, videos or files." All these providers have similar clause, but they usually refer only to loss of files due to hardware failure, not to "future reliability of hosting" - they assume they will continue to host, it's just matter of possible data loss which can happen to everyone and everywhere; but here, with this clause, Nelion questions whether they would continue hosting in the future at all.
Mega.nz, MediaFire, 4Shared? Probably some more? Imgur for images. Isn't it the other way round - they close the shop, because their business model appeared not to be viable? Estimation of number of paid users was wrong, increase of upstream provider prices, hackers attack, increase in competition, etc., a million reasons to invalidate a business plan and make it flop...
Hello, Sir! Your files have been deleted, most likely that no one downloaded them. A registered user has a file storage time of 30 days since the last download. The premium user keeps the files 365 days from the last download. Please tell me your username and I can give a more accurate answer why your files were deleted.
