Negotiating a sane price for a domain.

A friend of mine had a domain for a non-profit blog (no ads, so e-commerce etc).

He died a few years back, and we wanted to put up something in tribute on the domain. It has been re-registered since lapsing, and the organization that owns it is demanding $80K. Is there anything we can do, or do we just walk?

We'd pay at most $300, and be spitting blood that we had to pay this much...

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

can you give more information about the domain name? how long was it in use? what is the extension? was it a 1 word generic domain? or consists of several keywords? do you know when the domain first registered? If you provide those informations I can guide you easier ;)

The difference between $300 and $80,000 is just a little too big to reach a compromise. You have nothing to lose by being upfront & making a final $300 offer with a deadline but don't hold your breath. Then start looking for a new domain name that's a variation on the original.

I'd have my own domain instead of paying for a subdomain but there would be some exceptions
