Well, I left some positive feedback, and even though it's not my style, I've got to leave some negative feedback.

I'm wondering why the people who just sign up are called "Peons" while the people who've been around awhile get all these complimentary titles.

It's not like there's something wrong with just joining and something glorious about being around awhile. I just don't think it's very cool.

It seems like it fulfills a lot of the stereotypes that are too prevalent everywhere. Like, newbie, beginner, I can't even think of all the ones I thought of earlier, but they're all derogatory.

Why can't all the titles for everyone, whether just having joined or having been around for a long time, all be complimentary?

    Thanks.

We all start out as peons. Members progress to a next level quite rapidly.

Agree with the concept, Peon, Grunt, its all bad categorization, and who knows, may have something to do with all the people getting banned.

Personally, I do not define myself by my user title on DigitalPoint, nor have I ever cared what it was.

This community, and indeed life, is much more than what your user title is..

Good point regardless, but it may be time to start focusing on the bigger fish.

PS. Smyrl, pre-congrats on cool Post Count 9669 ;)

It definitely doesn't have anything to do with people being banned. The only reason new folks would be banned is if they're duplicate accounts (probably most common reason for new account bans) or if they didn't bother reading the rules and they came in spamming or posting a bunch of stuff that violates the rules. That's why they have to check a box asserting they've read them up front. There are no excuses. And long-time members also get infractions and bans if they choose to ignore the rules. The rules apply equally to everyone.

I meant subconscious/psychological categorization of people feeling lesser so they may feel the need to act out..

I have no market research for this, as its just a theory, by seeing how people (like the OP) could get offended, its why I prefixed the claim with "may"

I agree with you though, if people don't let what is a fairly insignificant thing get to them, and manage to follow the rules, they should be fine. If they're so tweaked out by tiny little things like that, then they may have been the type to act in ways that would get them banned anyway.

I still do agree it is unnecessary negative categorization, but a minuscule issue at best.

peon is also computing slang: a peon is an "unprivileged user".
when you join you don't have a lot of permissions, less privileges then a regular member, an unprivileged user, a peon. ;)
