We dont assume that google hires idiots and neither do we assume that such black hat techniques work. We DO UNDERSTAND that if that was the case, people would be spending more time doing harm to competitors website than working for theirs.
But there are cases when you need to do this. In my case I am not harming a competitor, I am looking to harm a defamatory result which is completely baseless.

And there is no harm trying these things, at the end of day no body knows what google does, how it does, its all hit and trial and practice and observe.

And there might be something for sure in these black hat practices, otherwise why do webmasters avoid mass/bulk link building ?

Unfortunately I know from experience that these tactics do work. I don't appreciate being called clueless.

Ok. Here's a suggestion - why don't you try these techniques on YOUR site and let us know how you get on. I'm guessing you'll see a fall in rankings. Google penalises blackhat techniques, period.

you can use black hat to link build that page and all the spamming techniques available, I don't think so if that page can still rank after all the illegal techniques that you did.

I can appreciate you do not like being called clueless. However if that is the worst that you have been called you should be happy...:)

As to what worked against you, it is probably more due to the fact that there was little to no competition for your term, and less to do with blackhat tactics you think were applied.

    ====================================================

Why would I do blackhat when I have keywords sitting at # 1 for years for competitive two word terms using whitehat SEO, and I have in the past openly challenged people to move some of them with blackhat and to date they still sit in place.

In fact with whitehat I have a new site on the front page of Google for a single word term.....

I really don't see the need to blackhat, and given that what I have done has seen results in place over 4+ years straight, without falling I do not think I will ever see a reason to.

    Good luck!!!

Ok well there are a few people who would tell you that we're pretty sure how Google operates.

Why do webmasters avoid mass link building??

Study the usage of historical & empirical data and how Google uses it to determine which sites use artificial link building.

    Its not hard to determine.

X amount of websites, in category Y, acquired Z number of links, within set timeframe.

Any aberrations above that data, would indicate artificial link building, Unless there was something to justify the excessive links that were built, such as solving cancer, a hurricane report or other newsworthy item.

    Hope this helps....

No, it wasn't something that worked against me, more like something I did to someone else. And it worked. That's all I'm going to say on that matter.

Okay well I think you might be a bit misguided since you have no verification what happened was your result.

I know Google did not e-mail and say to you "hey Ed your blackhat trick worked". So at best you are operating on speculation.

Want to see how good you are???? Try to move Matt Cutts blog off the first page of Google.

Once you do that, I will believe you have a clue, and offer you some real $$$$ work..

    :)

Yes I disagree with you so I must be misguided.

Obviously they didn't. One hell of a coincidence though.

For what search term? Might take you up on that, if I have the time... I do like a challenge.

    Got plenty of work thanks.

At the end of the day, sites get penalised for certain things. Do you refute that?

My tried and tested method of capturing multiple listings for a single search term. Completely ethical. Numbered according to their importance!

    - Optimize your website to get it ranked
    - Register on online UGC sites like squidoo, hubpages, yahoo answers, youtube and get your matter up there (different versions)
    - Register on article marketing sites and get your content up there. Look for more popular ones.
    - Start link building for them all (schedule them accordingly) on daily basis.

I got atleast 3-4 listings on top 20 results on Google. Which means around 20% of your domination. If you put more effort, your % increases.

    Regards,

While I'm tempted to point out you didn't actually read the discussion, I do have to agree. Black hat is inherently bad.
