There's a strong debate whether neg. publicity is better than no publicity. I just want to know you're guys thoughts on this :D

Basically with no publicity there is zero chance and with negative publicity there still is some chance...

    You're comments?

If you are selling something, and I don't like you or what you said, even just a little, there is zero chance I would buy from your site.

    Think about it.

Depending on what you are selling. I was doing a campaign for a product that get crapped on, but I was ranked higher than their actual site. I did receive A LOT of emails about cancellations, ect. But I did convert a sale every once in awhile. So...yes, it can help.

I think it depends greatly on your sites topic... you don't want too much negative publicity, but controversial posts can be a good traffic boost.

yeah! there has been a lot of discussion on this in this forum, most of the writers say if the article or blog is controversial, it attracts immediate attention... i have personally used it, but yes, i do read controversial stuff with great interest.. so i guess it must be working!

Controversial posts is definitely a way to boost traffic. Anything too negative can have damaging consequences.

I actually just wrote about using controversy to generate sale on my blog I think that if your product relies on it's trust factor, than it could be bad. Like let's say you were lifelock who depends on trust and news came out that their service didn't work, it would effect their sales. But let's say the publicity was for an information product in which there were two sides fighting, then it could generate sales.

It depends on how trustworthy the source is. Negative publicity can tarnish your rep if your not established. It can also help for products like movies and music. It lets a customer know the product is out there, and most people don't pay critics any mind because we all have different tastes. I've seen plenty movies with bad reviews that made a killing at the box office.

Yea negative publicity is better than none at all. People will be curious and try and find out more information about it. Alot of people don't just go with what the majority says, they go their own way... Rebels!
