Normally at the start try to recruit some posters from like minded forums. Esp Runescape I am sure there are a lot of die hards. Once you had them in your forum, the rest should follow naturally. What is most important is content, you need to add in unique content that can distinguish you from the rest.

I think for a start, it would help if the die hards are paid or given some incentives.

Well I've already got it going, I've got around 600 members so far, I'm just looking for ways to get even more.

Here are some of my favorite traffic driving & website promotion techniques to drive traffic to my blogs.

They are great for pulling in traffic, subscribers and sales.

    1. Article Marketing such as EzineArticles, GoArticles and ArticleCity
    2. Social Bookmarking such as Digg, Propeller, Del.icio.us
    3. RSS Submission
    4. Directory/Blog Directory submissions
    5. Blogging
    6. Viral Marketing with ebooks
    7. Comment Posting
    8. Forum Posting in related forums. Simply Google "yourtopic + forum"
    9. JV with related competitors

Adwords if you've got cash to spare. Try swapping links with other forums/blogs. 600 members is a lot, try and have a content to get your current members to recruit new members. The possibilities are endless, especially if you've already established a member base of 600+.

Best thing would be is link-building to other forums, so maybe create TOPSITES. Buy forum posters but not too many and also spread the word on websites, such as DP. Hope it helps :)

I agree. Try to buy or do link exchanges with related websites.

Also, there would be a small effect if you post it in the RuneScape forums and InGame.

I would run some competitions. I would definately have incentives for your current members to invite others. Monetary, prizes whatever will suit your forum.
Also ranking well in SE will help obviously.
