I have a website that has a huge amount of traffic.

And i am trying to decide which package would be best for me to choose.

    Through Hostgator.

    Their VPS Level 9 package
    or
    Their Dedicated Elite package?

    their dedicated ~ http://www.hostgator.com/dedicated
    Their vps ~ http://www.hostgator.com/vps-hosting/

I have a large amount of web traffic to my site, and need to know which is best for me

    VPS level 9
    or
    Dedicated Elite

    Thanks

a dedicated would be better for you than a vps ,because not matter how much memory they gave you, its still shared .

For me the question is if you are sure you need to spend that amount of money. I guess there are smarter ways to get the same performance from a hoster for a better price.

Hostgator, do you really think they will handle your high traffic website after so much downtime issues been faced by them. I would recommend you to consider Hosting companies which are not under EIG group. Many companies can be found which are far better then Hostgator.

I would like to mention here then, you can consider WebhostUK LTD as a good option. From the last three years I have my hosting account with them and truly speaking I haven't faced any major issues like downtime. Support department is kind and are always ready to help us with any issues.

I think you should not continue with Hostgator if you are planning to upgrade to dedicated server, I have used their Dedicated Servers, and I can guarantee they are not worth it. If you are really planning to go for dedicated, I would recommend you start with iweb.com's servers. Cheaper and more reliable than hostgator.

Such offers in many cases are valid if you buy hosting with a long term basis. Before getting a service, I think you'd know what are you getting and exactly how much are you going to pay at the end. Advertised monthly cost was $1.98, but at the end it became $3.58 with discount and WITHOUT Site Backup (+19.95 yr.)...
    Think twice...

You should go for dedicated, Although it's stated that VPS has the same dedicated function, but still its shared. As you have huge traffic, which will definitely lead to heavy pressure on the server, dedicated may be the best choice. Check some affordable dedicated server at Gogetspace too.

If it still relevant, It is all depend of what you need, What do you want to host !?
And how much do you want to spend ;)

For example.. if you want a simple wordpress sites... you don't need a VPS..
and if you want to build you own site hardcoded .. go with Windows VPS ...

But do your homework, Check with more companies... Hostgator are a bit expansive

    Good Luck!
