Hello, I am having trouble selecting the right domain name between the list below. I read a lot (too much??) discussions about Branding/SEO and I am now confused! The new website is a directory of holistic (or health/healing) retreats (or resorts) mostly based on reviews. In 5 languages. This is the choice: 1- Holistic-Retreats.com : keywords rich domain but not very brandable? Competition and confusion with a lot of other domains I guess. And Hyphen… 2- GoRetreats.com : short and one keyword, a little bit more brandable but not that great? 3- Tripolistic.com : Very brandable (my opinion?), no keyword (unless I do it under tripholistic.com, but would it loose its attractiveness?). Do you see it too close to tripadvisor so at risk of their lawyers?? Thank you for your time and support. Of course any other suggestion welcome! Ved.
My opinion is to make it brandable and really easy to remember. After all your SEO will depend on the links you have and the content. You can call it CowPiss.com but if you have related backlinks and good content you will rank for the keywords you target.
I agree with Alin. Keyword domains are great in all, but they are just lack-luster. If you are serious about the site, go with the brandable one. You'll be glad you did. I absolutely hate domains with hyphens in them. That's just my opinion. Tripolistic is a bit of a tongue twister. Too much if you ask me. GoRetreats.com is perfect.
I've never been a big fan of hyphens in domain names (like the in the first example), and made-up words (like the second one) are just another hurdle to establishing a brand. I would choose GoRetreats, it is easy to remember, nice and short, and directly relates to what your content will be.
3st for GoRetreats. Like Alin said EMDs aren't as important as they used to. Google's getting wise to the fact there's too many squatters.
