Need Wordpress help - changing text

    I spent the day changing the theme on my blog, and in my opinion it looks a lot better. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to fix 2 things on it.

    I am not a coder and maybe that's the problem. :rolleyes:

    My blog is: http://blog.bestnaughtydeals.com
    :cool: Warning: It is a adult blog! :cool:

    Problems:

    #1 - I can't figure out how to change the color of the text over the top banner. It is currently white, which doesn't work out with the current theme.

    #2 - The sub category titles of the links to the left are WAY too big, and black colored which doesn't fit into the theme well. I did find a way to change the font size for that column but it ended up changing the font size of everything in the left column which doesn't work at all since it makes the normal writing too small.

    Any help is VERY appreciated.

    Thanks. :)

    Ok, here's what you're looking for. What is most likely the case here is that you're missing something in the .css file.

    The header text is likely placed at the same time as the header image. Find it in your template file and make note of the tag for the div that it's in. It should look something like <div XXXX=XXXXX> .

    Now, find that tag in your .css file and you should see a color tag there. Otherwise, find the tag that is used to place the text whether it be a <h1> tag or whatnot and look for that in the .css file. The color of the text should be in one of those two places.

    Same thing for your sidebar headers. Most likely, they are a <h1> or <h2> tag and the size of that is set in your .css file as well. Take a look in your template and see if you can spot where the list begins on that sidebar section. If you can find where the text you want to change is placed, you should be able to find the tag.

    It is possible that you may have different settings in each section of the blog so be careful to look for a "sidebar h1" first and if it doesn't exist, then use one that is just h1 and see how it works.

    Whatever you do, make sure you have a backup of the file before making changes and after each successful change as well. I can't tell you how many times I've made about 20 changes and then made one bad one and had to start over.

    Ok, with your help thatedeguy, I was able to change the font color of the title. YAY! :D

    Unfortunately I still can't find where my 2nd problem is. :confused:

    From sidebar.php
    <ul><?php  get_links_list('id'); ?></ul>
    Code (markup):
    There is no H1/H2/H3/H4 related to it.

    From style.css
    h1 a, h1 a:hover {
    	color: #c66b7a;
    	/*padding-top: 110px;
    	padding-left: 130px;*/
    	font-size: 30px;
    	font-style: italic;
    	text-decoration: none;
    }

    h2 a {
    	font-size: 1em;
    	color: #9A0500;
    	background-image: url(images/h2.jpg);
    	background-repeat: repeat-x;
    	height: 42px;
    	padding-top: 3px;
    	margin-bottom: 20px;
    	padding-left: 3px;
    	text-decoration: none;
    	display:block;
    }

    h3, h3 a {
    	background-image: url(images/sidebar_heading.jpg);
    	font-size: 1em;
    	height: 19px;
    	width: 135px;
    	color: #FFFFFF;
    	padding-top: 3px;
    	padding-left: 24px;
    	text-decoration: none;
    }

    h4, h4 a {
    	background-image: url(images/sidebar_heading_2.jpg);
    	font-size: 1em;
    	height: 19px;
    	width: 125px;
    	color: #FFFFFF;
    	padding-top: 3px;
    	padding-left: 10px;
    	padding-right: 24px;
    	text-decoration: none;
    Code (markup):
    Now I did find a weird mention of H2 in the index file so I'm adding it here. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

    from index.php
    <?php get_header(); ?>
    <?php get_sidebar(); ?>
    <div id="content">
    	<?php if (have_posts()) : ?> <?php while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
    		<h2><a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to <?php the_title(); ?>"><?php the_title(); ?></a></h2>
    		<?php the_content('Read the rest of this entry &raquo;'); ?>
    		<?php comments_template(); ?>
    		<p class="metainfo">Posted on <?php the_time('F jS, Y') ?> by <?php the_author() ?> and filed under <?php the_category(', ') ?> <strong>|</strong> <?php edit_post_link('Edit','','<strong>|</strong>'); ?> <?php comments_popup_link('No Comments &raquo;', '1 Comment &raquo;', '% Comments &raquo;'); ?></p>
    	<?php endwhile; ?>
    	<?php endif; ?>
    </div>
    <?php get_footer(); ?>
    Code (markup):
    So H1 is the title.
    H2 is the Article / Story title
    H3 is the menu bar to the left
    H4 is the menu bar to the right

    I also noticed a 3rd problem I have. :( In Internet Explorer my right column is floating towards the center instead of lined up in its lines.

    Ok, I'm not sure why I didn't just look at the source code that it creates the first time around. Would have made it easier on both of us I think. what the above code is doing is creating a nested list and pulling the links. So, when it is done, the html of it looks a little like this:
    <ul>	<li id="linkcat-4" class="linkcat"><h2>Links</h2>
    	<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.bestnaughtydeals.com" title="Adult Toy Price Comparison">Best Naughty Deals</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://reader.blogexplosion.com/" title="Get your FREE Blog RSS Reader!">Get your FREE Blog RSS Reader!</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://blog.thehappyhousewife.net/" title="Toy Reviews and More!">The Happy Housewife</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.thrallos.org" title="Free Advice and Training site for Male Submissives">Thrallos Foundation</a></li>

    	</ul>
    </li>
    Code (markup):
    As you can see, the headers in question are h2 headers, so you should be able to play around with the size of the h2 classes in the .css file and fix the problem there.

    So, with that said, your next issue will be that both the titles in the sidebar and the title of your posts (as evidenced by the last bit of code you included) are both h2 class titles. So, you'll have to see if there is a linkcat h2 class defined somewhere in the .css file. If not, you can create one and it should solve the problem. It should look something like this:

    linkcat h2  {
    	font-size: 1em;
    	color: #9A0500;
    	background-image: url(images/h2.jpg);
    	background-repeat: repeat-x;
    	height: 42px;
    	padding-top: 3px;
    	margin-bottom: 20px;
    	padding-left: 3px;
    	text-decoration: none;
    	display:block;
    }
    Code (markup):
    You will of course want to change the parameters as I literally copied that from the code you posted and just changed the title of it around to reflect the syntax of adding it for just the linkcat(sidebar section).

    Little tip.
    I just did some similar changes, and I am also a hack when it comes to code.
    Besides backing up your current config. files.

    I just open the original template file, and keep it side by side of the same file that I am changing of the same name to make sure that they are identical, except for the changes that I am making.
    Saves me a lot of heart ache:)
